This is ridiculus! I’m hearing that the Board told White that they didn’t want TB because it would be a “lateral move”. That may be the case, but I think it has been shown that we aren’t going to be George Jefferson-ing it up to the East Side. We need to hire someone who has a proven record as a coach and a recruiter.

That is not to say that it couldn’t be a coordinator I think Venables at OU and Charlie Strong at UF are the great options with tons of upside. Strong is from Batesville and is a UCA grad.

I may be becoming redundant but I will crack up and probably have to be institutionalized if Gus Malzahn is hired. Maybe next time, but he was a HIGH SCHOOL coach THREE years ago!! And putting aside my personal feelings a Malzahn hire would only further the division among fans. In fact, I would not be surprised to see irrabirable damage done.

So it goes.

Hogcaller, I look forward to reading your UCA blog if the Hogs hire Malzahn.

Thanks John, it is just so frustrating that we would look to hire someone that is documented to have caused a split among the fan base at a time when we need a uniting coach more than ever.

I’ve somewhat gotten used to getting egg on my face while watching the Hogs games. I don’t like that its now carrying over to the coaches search. Although I guess I shouldn’t be surprised considering last offseason.

By the way, John, I think this is a great site and I love Wally Watch.

Glad we didn’t get Bowden. He’s not the guy. I have to say Tuberville would be great, but that’s looking unlikely. I think I differ with you on Malzahn. He’s smart, ambitious, and an innovator. I know he split the fan base, but if he wins fans will get on base.

Other than that, I’d just as soon have Reggie Herring as any of these other defensive coordinators.

Why haven’t they called in a young, up and coming coach? Why haven’t they brought in Chris Petersen of Boise State? He’s gonna be the next Urban Meyer. Petersen was voted as the best coach in the NCAA winning the Paul "Bear" Bryant College Coach of the Year award earlier this year in January. He was a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award, a semifinalist for the George Munger Coach of the Year Award and was the Region 4 Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association. Petersen is 23-2 over the last 2 years, his team finished as the #5 team in the country last year, won its bowl game against Oklahoma in one of the greatest college football games ever played in the Fiesta Bowl, and this year is ranked #17 even after loosing his starting QB. Petersen is only 42 years old. All this in a state and a school that nobody wants to go to. He is doing all this with scrub players that nobody else wants! What could he do with quality kids, kids that want to play in the SEC?

At least bring him in for an interview…Why haven’t Razorback officials at least called him? UCLA was looking at him, he turned them down. I want somebody young that will build a new tradition in Razorback football, I want a proven winner, I want to be in a BCS bowl. Go Hogs!

I don’t see why Malzahn is credited with causing a split, or why anyone would dislike him. The facts are pretty much out there now regarding his time at UA. He was given a great opportunity to move up from high school. He was not given control of the offense like he thought. He was treated poorly by the other coaches. So, he left and took another job where he could run his offense. I never heard him say one negative thing about UA since he left – he just didn’t comment. I think most people were generally excited to see what Malzahn would do at Arkansas when he first arrived. He’s proven he’s a good offensive coordinator in just one year at Tulsa. I don’t know if he’s ready to be a head coach in the SEC, but I’d like to see him come back on his own terms as an OC – but that’s likely to never happen.
