New Year, Same Old Bowl Results

Wow. In a bowl history full of pathetic performances and miserable results, this game was epically bad (let's hope that Bobby Petrino isn't on the phone with his agent right now, trying to find something better). That's actually kind of impressive in its own sad way.

Anyway, I guess I should have listened to my head, not my heart. We'll have more thoughts on the Cotton Bowl later, and then will mercifully move on to more pleasant topics.

Happy New Year, everybody.

Can you repost that Well that Sucked headline from the Tennesse game?

Guys, you are right. I’ve been watching Hog bowl games since the Sugar Bowl under Holtz when I was about eight, and this is one of the worst (no, THE) worst performances I can remember. I take some consolation in the idea that the people associated with Hog losses in bowl games are now all out the door. Broyles is gone (he didn’t have a winning record in bowl games), Nutt is gone (dido), and Nutt’s staff is gone, except for two coaches, I think. Hopefully with Long and Petrino we can start a tradition of ringing in the New Year in grander fashion.
I feel for the team (some) right now, but I mostly feel for the Arkansas fans in the stands who could only cheer. The team could have done something about the results. Those Arkansans in the stands paid out a whole lot of money for this experience, and they got crap in return. And being an expat myself, I can look forward to hearing crap from everyone who knows I am a hog fan, and everyone does know it! Uggh.
Looking forward to your basketball posts! Haha. PLEASE, may we have a good season there!

Correction. I saw on a post where the Hogs lost the 1987 Orange Bowl by 34 points. So I guess I did witness a worse effort. I just hope I can put this one out of memory, given enough time, like I did that Orange Bowl.

Re the ‘87 Orange Bowl. Talk about taking some crap, I lived in Ft. Smith at the time and worked with some Okies who were still smartin’ over the ’78 Orange (my Dad included). Not a fun time…

I won’t be taking much stuff over this one though: the only guy who’d even think about it is a ’Noles fan…;^)

I’m not worried about Petrino but, man, he did look uncomfortable in the booth, didn’t he?
