Where in the World is Eugene Nash?

Wanted: Eugene NashAs Stephen so eloquently explained in a recent post, the Razorback Expats organization has always had a particular fascination with basketball walk-ons...those unsung heroes who would dominate mere mortals in a pickup game, yet ride the pine while the big names do battle on the court.

In the pantheon of Razorback walk-ons, no star shines brighter than that of Eugene Nash, that legendary crowd favorite from the mid-Eddie Sutton era. However, his tale has largely been lost to history...a sad state of affairs that we are now seeking to correct.

So, if you know Eugene Nash, have information about his whereabouts or, best of all, actually are Eugene Nash, please contact us at razorbackexpats at yahoo dot com. We would very much like to track him down and conduct an informal interview to share his story with the world (and give us the chance to chat with one of our favorite ex-Hogs).

Freethrow, you are obviously a genius. This is great stuff!

Keep those bits of information coming, folks.

Thanks,
John

Ellis Johnson to South Carolina! Already trouble in the ranks?

On the subject of favorite walk-ons, Clark Irwin has left the football team. You may remember his stellar holds for field goals and extra points this past season. Proud to say that there were no botched holds though I always told him he should bobble it on purpose to run/throw for a touchdown.

I think Eugene (The dunking machine) Nash is from Turrell Arkansas. Might be a good place to start looking.

Correction on my last comment. Eugene is from Tyronza not Turrell. Good luck

This might be a longshot but….

I worked at Tyson Foods in the early to mid 90s. When I left, Eugene was still working there. That headshot of him in the magazine with his daughter could have been taken at Tyson Foods.

Migj\ht be worth a shot to dail up the corpoate office and ask for Eugene…

In the latest edition of Where’s Eugene, here is a cached Google link from earlier this month:

You might also consider www.whitepages.com for Fayetteville, there is a Eugene J. Nash and spouse listed there who appear to be the correct age.

Remember when they used to print a full-page photo of one player in the newsprint programs they handed out at the basketball games?! I remember one night, when Nash’s photo was in the program, the Hogs were up by double digits, and it was EUGENE time! … every one opened their programs to his picture and yelled “EU-GENE! EU-GENE!” until finally Eddie put him in.

Gee, it sure was great back when we had a basketball team…
