So Close

For a few stirring minutes there in the second half, I thought the Hogs were on their way to their most inspiring win in a long, long time. Alas, it was not to be. Still, I was proud of them (although the free-throw shooting continues to grate) and hope the second half was something for them to build on. Box score here and AP game story here. The curse of my attendance continues.

Sorry.

I think most of the Hogs losses this year are largely attributable to two things: 1) having high turnovers, and 2) not making free-throws.

The hogs didn’t turn it over as much on Saturday but they sure didn’t help themselves at the line. 8-15 is pretty pathetic. If we had hit half of the ones we missed, it would be a different game.

It’s clear that we just don’t have dependable free-throw shooters (Even Beverly isn’t that dependable). I think this is interesting because our great teams seemed to be automatic from the line – Mayberry, Beck, McDaniel, Williamson, even D. Stewart.

Every time our guys go to the line now, I cringe when they release it.

Vincent Hunter taking what seemed like 8 three point shots didn’t help matters.
