Another QB Controversy for Mustain?

from Scout.com

Stephens Media's Harry King reports that former Hog Mitch Mustain is in line to start USC's season opener against Virginia and speculates that the Springdale native may soon find himself in the midst of another quarterback controversy.

It already seems like a long time ago that Mustain and his stage mother Beck Campbell took their act, appropriately, to Los Angeles (that's not to say that plenty of other people didn't behave foolishly during that whole sorry soap opera).

I felt that it was probably best for everybody involved that Mustain left when he did, but one can't help but wonder what Bobby Petrino could do with the young man. Hopefully, a newly confident Casey Dick and, in the years to come, Ryan Mallet will make it a moot question. I'm confident that at least Mallet will.

Besides, Campbell's presence would probably be one way to guarantee that Petrino's itinerant ways would continue. One season of dealing with her, and Michael Vick's dog-fighting-ring-induced woes might seem like a day at the beach.

I read a Tony Barnhart piece from the AJC this morning that I found linked to MrSec (thanks for linking that site!) and he went on to say that Arkansas fans would be rather mad come September 13th if Mustain is playing against Ohio State. I tried to post a response (it never would take it all) to let Mr. Barnhart know that in my opinion most Arkansas fans would be happy for Mitch if he made it to the starting job at USC, seeing as we think he got a bum deal by all the adults involved. Now, Barnhart could have meant that we would be even madder because Mustain got away from us. And that’s probably true, but the arrival of Mallet and Petrino has taken some of the sting out of that. I went on to point out that Mitch transfered to a school Arkansas isn’t likely to play again anytime soon. But Mr. Barnhart’s favorite coach, Houston Nutt, went to a division rival that Arkansas plays every year. He should know that it is Houston Nutt, not Mitch Mustain, that gets the Arkansas fans’ blood to boiling. I am sure Mr. Barnhart could give you a good, Southern cussing with Bobby Petrino’s name attached, but you aren’t likely to hear a discouraging word from him about now Colonel Nutt.
