Expectations Are Certainly Running High

WHS pollLooks like Bobby Petrino has his work cut out for him. Despite a brutally difficult schedule (the 2nd toughest in all the land, say some), the loss of some of the best Razorbacks ever to the NFL after last season, and a defense that has resembled a leaky sieve throughout training camp, fan expectations are running high.

According to a (highly unscientific) poll running today on WholeHogSports.com, 69% of the nearly 5,000 respondees think the Hogs will win 7 games or more this season. Taking it a step further, 37% think we're headed for a 9+ win season, which seems to indicate that at least 1,800 Arkansas fans have an extremely shaky grasp on reality (no news there, of course).

To those die hards who are expecting a 9+ win season, I should go ahead and mention that, as painful as it may be to hear this, Santa Claus isn't real. It was just your parents all along. Also, if you're interested in a great financial opportunity, please email me at razorbackexpats @ yahoo dot com...I'm rounding up investors for a can't miss real estate deal in Florida.

As long as they don’t go bat shit crazy when we don’t win nine games and start flying banners, then having those high expectations at the beginning of the season can’t do too much harm I suppose. And who knows? College football was rather crazy last year. Kinda makes you expect the unexpected for this year. Who would have believed that Michigan would lose to App. State going into last year? Georgia, for instance, being voted number one to begin the season just about assures they won’t be number one to end it. But that is what makes college football so exciting. And maybe in the Texas game or the Florida game, so of that magic upset dust will settle on the Hogs. It sure did last November in Baton Rouge!

I completely agree. Looking at the schedule there is no reason we can’t win at least 6 games (of course, that being said, we could also only when 2 or 3). Alabama is waaaay overrated. Miss. St. is still doesn’t have a QB, and Ole Miss hasn’t won an SEC game since ‘06. I just ready for little pay back against the longhorns. I bet if the football had an 8 ball if coke on it Matt Jones wouldn’t have dropped it!!! Go HOGS!!!

The contrast in demeanor between Nutt and Petrino could not be greater. If Petrino doesn’t win his personality, or lack thereof, might be problematic for Hog fans. Of course, it he wins…well it won’t really matter that much how the old boy comes across. I have no expertise to predict….but I think the Hogs will finish above .500….I plan on making the trek to Fayetteville as much as possible anyway.

Oh, nice job on the Santa Claus reference… really great… There are probably thousands of parents of your five and six year old loyal Expat readers that are pissed at you guys right now…
