510, meet 501

In just his second NFL game, Darren McFadden conjured up visions of his years in Fayetteville by rushing for 164 yards on 21 carries in Oakland's 23-8 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. McFadden's day included a 50-yard run and a touchdown.

DMac's heroic effort came as rumors were swirling that Raiders owner Al Davis was all set to fire coach Doogie Howser Lane Kiffin if Oakland lost yesterday. After playing for three years for a certain prodigious sender of text messages, McFadden may be better equipped than many to handle off-the-field drama. Unfortunately, it's hard to escape the feeling that Darren has landed in a spot where the story off the field will always be much more interesting than the one on it.

Hurray for D-Mac! Don’t you think he called Felix after the game to say he has one now as well? Knowing how well they got along, Felix was probably watching it on television. And McFadden will probably tune in tonight to see the Cowboys.

I look forward to seeing the SEC poll for this week. I think Auburn should fall. And Arkansas not playing a game should be better than Mississippi State’s lack of performance offensively against Auburn. So put them at the tail end of the SEC for the week! They both should be put on SEC double-secret-probation for imitating Arsenal and Manchester United on a good day. 3-2 GEEZ. CALLING DEAN SLIVE!

PS: I note where the game after Nutt said he was going to simplify Ole Miss’s offense, that their qb didn’t throw for a single TD against Samford after having thrown for four, I think, against Wake Forest.
