Time for Another Monday Diversion

Mondays are getting pretty depressing around here. Last week, following the Texas blowout and massive collapse of our financial system, I posted a clip of the great 1989 win over Houston. I was hoping a repeat wouldn't be necessary, but now that we're facing another Monday with the hangover from a recent rout and a stock market that continues to plummet it seems as if another diversion is in order (and the way things are going on both fronts, it won't be the last one).

So, take a break from stocking your bomb shelter with water, ammunition and non-perishable food items and enjoy this clip (once again courtesy of the prolific Rexgasm) of the 1998 game against Alabama:

Haha, yeah, if I could only step through my computer screen and go back to 1998 and talk to Stoerner there on the sidelines about the later in the season Tennessee game and how he would need to hold onto the ball during the final two minutes. And I would tell Brandon Burlsworth that he should never attempt to pass a car when he can’t see far enough down the road. Houston Nutt, I would tell him to just go out on a high and leave after the Independence Bowl win over Missouri. Take the plane to Nebraska. It would turn out better for everybody in the end if you did just that. Probably even better for Nebraska too. Finally, I would tell Joe Dean Davenport that when the Colts play Miami in Indianapolis in 2003 to be sure to catch the damn pass from Peyton Manning after every Colts fan near me had been listening to me say, “Throw it to Joe Dean!” all game. Haha.

The last real question, What would Tommy Tuberville have done with the 1998/99 team? It was clearly one of the best teams of the last 30 years, probably our best ever in the SEC. Little did we know when each season crashed late and early that we were seeing the pattern that would mark Dale’s tenure. Personally, I’ve never thought that much of Tommy. He seems neither fish nor fowl to me. I have to say though that finally this year I am beginning to finally appreciate Tommy. He has shown a lot of class in supporting his OC.

Just want to say that you guys do a GREAT job. Your insight, knowledge, and wit are a joy to read.

I’m a 1974 U of A grad and am also an expat living in Chicago.

Question: Have you ever thought of doing a “where are they now” section? Might be fun and eye opening. I may have some information to share with you in that area also.

Hi Bill,

Thanks very much for the kind words. They are much appreciated.

We’ve done several Q&As with ex-Hogs (James Rouse, Eugene Nash and Pat Bradley) and have another one in the can that we’ll be putting up soon. (Pause for the crowd to go wild with anticipation.)

If you have any tips or suggestions, please e-mail us at razorbackexpats@yahoo.com.

Thanks again. Don’t be a stranger.
