This Picture Was Taken Approximately 6 Million Years Ago

Honestly, I'm pretty sick of the Nutt/Mustain/Malzahn love triangle at this point, but with Tulsa coming to town I just couldn't resist posting this photo. Apologies.

You are right. It does seem like 6 million years ago! Geez. All that has happened since then, wow. What with Tulsa coming up, we only lack having Mitch Mustain and the Trojans coming back to Fayetteville to complete the reunion tour of a season we are having. The picture looks like the win over Auburn, which I guess was the zenith of the Mitch Mustain at Arkansas experience. I wouldn’t have thought that then. I was imagining Mitch here for four years and how he would defy the norm and progress as a QB at Arkansas and just get better each year. Now he rides the pine in LA. I wonder if he regrets not going to Tulsa where he would most likely be seeing more playing time. Maybe he thought that would be too small of a stage. I don’t know. As it is, just one former Arkansas coach will be coaching against us on Saturday. That’s down how many from last week? haha.

I like this photo.

I feel sorry for both of those guys though, that is, having to put up with Nutt for as long as they did. I’m glad that Gus is doing as well as he is and I hope they score 100 points against the hogs this weekend. Not that I don’t like BP or the current gang, but I still feel bad about how Gus was treated. I hope he realizes that.

None-the-less, as least we got rid of our own “Al-Davis” (even to have to meet him for the next few years).

I feel like the whole Gus deal, looking back, was probably doomed from the beginning. Hiring Gus was not Nutt’s idea. He did it to get the players that Broyles knew would sell tickets. It was a force hire that came down from Broyles when Nutt was not in the best of positions after two losing seasons. Instead of looking at these guys as the gifts they were to the program, Nutt, I think, took them to be an insult to his ability to coach the Hogs. As for Saturday’s game, I don’t think Malzahn would want any Hog fan to root for Tulsa just because he is on their staff. And I am certainly not going to root for them to beat a group of players and a coaching staff that had nothing to do with Malzahn leaving the program. My loyalty to the Hogs comes before any one coach, head or assistant. I hope the Hogs score 100 points against Tulsa!

Yeah, Nutt had to spit the bit. If he had let it alone he would have lost too much; his offense, his local hero status, eventually his team. It was a bonehead idea by washed up old man. Strangely enough, I think we are better off like this. Gus and Mitch reset the program for all of us to move on. Any less would have been more patient wandering in the wilderness waiting to return to college football.

Thank You Gus and Mitch but, there was no place for you here. Maybe down the road someday.

I hope that Tulsa doesn’t hang 100 on the Hogs. I’ve never been comfortable with teams that run up the score, and Tulsa is no exception. In fact, I think Tulsa running up the score is the only reason that they’re ranked, especially considering their schedule. I’m not saying that they’re not a good team, or that they won’t beat us, but there’s no way that they’re the 19th best team in the country.
As an aside, watching USC run up the score on Washington St. reminded me of when USC ran the score up on the Hogs. Ironically, it was actually the Hogs that were accused of running the score up against Southeast Missouri State and LA-Monroe, despite the fact that Darren McFadden sat out the entire second half.
