SEC Power Poll: Week 10
The Hogs rocketed to their highest ranking of the year in this week's Power Poll...church bells are ringing and spontaneous celebrations are breaking out across the state. Some other stuff happened around the conference, too...read on for our expert punditry (and be sure to check out the official Week 10 Power Poll results while you're at it):
1. (2) Florida (defeated Georgia, 49-10)
2. (1) Alabama (defeated Arkansas State, 35-0)
These two teams have clearly separated themselves from the rest of the pack. As for moving Florida over Alabama despite Bama's big win? We're just mavericks that way.
3. (3) Georgia (lost to Florida, 10-49)
4. (4) LSU (defeated Tulane, 35-10)
Seems kind of weird that Georgia can get absolutely annihilated by Florida and not drop down a spot, but nobody else has stepped up to claim it. Beware...Les Miles may use this mini-slight against his team as bulletin board fodder when LSU plays the Razorbacks.
5. (5) South Carolina (defeated Tennessee, 27-6)
6. (6) Mississippi (defeated Auburn, 17-7)
7. (8) Kentucky (defeated Mississippi State, 14-13)
South Carolina is eager to join these other teams in dealing Arkansas a bizarre and heartbreaking last-second loss. Fun!
8. (9) Arkansas (defeated Tulsa, 30-23)
9. (7) Vanderbilt (idle)
We're #8! We're #8! We're #8!
10. (12) Mississippi State (lost to Kentucky, 13-14)
11. (10) Auburn (lost to Mississippi, 7-17)
12. (11) Tennessee (lost to South Carolina, 6-27)
The dregs. Fulmer is already out...what fate awaits Tuberville after the season?

We are #8, We are #8, We are #8!!! Yes, we can! haha, I thought I would join in. As for Tommy Tuberville, I think a lot hangs on the Alabama game. If he can somehow pull off a win for number seven in a row and probably ruin Bama’s national title hopes, I don’t think there is any way they could justify firing him. If he loses the game, he might just decide to hightail it to Clemson. Clemson fans might be seen saying, “Didn’t we just fire him?” They look rather alike.
The big what-if of Arkansas football hiring will always be, in my opinion, what if the Japanese hadn’t bombed Pearl Harbor and Paul Bear Bryant had taken the job at Arkansas, which was offered to him, and had not joined the Navy. (What, the country before the Hogs? -haha) Next is what if the famous search committee had hired Tommy Tuberville and not Houston Nutt. If quantum mechanics is true and parrell universes really exist, then I think there are some really happy Hog fans out there somewhere in a universe where Paul Bear Bryant is famous for bringing Arkansas championships, real and imaginary, and Tommy Tuberville is known for his undefeated, SEC Championship, season at Arkansas.

Kevin, great thoughts. Somewhere in a parallel universe, the alternate Clint Stoerner is celebrating being the hero of the 1998 Tennessee game, and the alternate Scotty Thurman is lamenting that his 3-point attempt against Duke went in and out.
Deep thoughts for a Thursday morning!

Yeah, John, I didn’t really consider those “bad universes” such as the one where we lost to Duke. But, yeah, you are right. I pity the poor Hog fans who live in it! Ouch. But it is still neat to think that people are calling the Hogs on the East Coast, West Coast, and in multiple universes! haha. Thank goodness they haven’t found a way to charge one person in one universe for all the other tickets of his or her multiple-selves. At least not yet!

What I find amazing about the poll is that we are behind Vandy and Kentucky and ahead of Tennessee and Auburn. The SEC is certainly an unsure and changeable place!
I’m looking forward to my every-other-year go-see-the-hogs in Columbia pilgrimage. I’ll be the one in red.

As long as we’re talking about alternate universes, it’s worth noting that there’s one universe where the Hogs are undefeated. In everything. Entropy’s a bitch.
