Miracle on Markham, Part 2
Wow. Wow. Wow!!!
Talk about your storybook finishes...after a famously up & down Razorback career, Casey Dick couldn't have asked for a more triumphant way to close it out. Huge kudos to him...he certainly deserves to end on that note after all he's been through (and props to London Crawford, Dennis Johnson and all the other Hog heroes).
Damn, that final touchdown was amazing!
I have so many thoughts running through my head I'm not in any condition to write a proper post, but I wanted to put something up so you all could share your own observations. We'll have a more coherent reaction up once we've had time to process it all.
Definitely looking forward to hearing what you all have to say after this one...the floor is all yours.

pretty sure london got called for offensive p.i. during the ole miss game for the exact same thing he did in today’s ball game.
casey’s redemption was sweet to watch. and he can now needle his little brother for having to come in and clean up his mess.
dennis johnson takes the second greatest little fast steps. trindon takes the first.
fun way to end the season. thank you les miles.

Casey always gave his best against LSU. Remember last year? Dick had the huge block on Chad Jones that allowed McFadden to score his 73-yard touchdown. Then he converted on 4th and 10 in the first overtime with his pass to Hillis. Now he has a little touchdown drive to add to that resume.

4th & 1… and then a TD??!?!?!? An absolutely incredible play. Top ten in my book. And the defense?! They earned their strips today. Not to mention they were defending against some of the fastest football players in the nation. The offense clicked, we didn’t have any major goofs.
I’m like you guys, I have so many thoughts running through my head its hard to have a decent coherent thought!
We won… Second year in a row… I’m happy.

“pretty sure london got called for offensive p.i. during the ole miss game for the exact same thing he did in today’s ball game.”
Watch it again. Crawford made sure he kept his hands to himself as much as he could. In fact, the LSU defender had his right hand on London’s chest right before the ball came in. As in the Ole Miss game, Crawford made a great play for the win. The only difference was what the ref did with his laundry and that did make all the difference.
Who would have thought Johnson would have 127 yards (and seven yards per carry)?
And what about the D?! Holy Shit I owe those guys an apology big time. I was raggin’ their ass unmercifully after that awful 2nd quarter. Then they buckled down and gave me some real hope for that side of the ball in 2009. GO HOGS GO!!!

What an ending to a mind numbing season….
Went into it just hoping for good showing…
team looked good at times, but other times …
When’s that Red-White game next spring?

I’m ready! Especially since I just read that Broderick Green will enroll at Arkansas next year. Welcome home, Big Guy!

I will miss Casey Dick. I hope the other QBs were taking notes on how to play with heart from his example.
Exhibit 1: Casey becoming a lead blocker for DJ around the end when he couldn’t get any yards up the middle. How many other quarterbacks are going to do that?
Exhibit 2: Keeping his head up and maintaining his poise to throw that strike in the end zone to Crawford.
Exhibit 3: See post 11263 above.

Hawgfan,
I am not so sad to see Casey Dick leave. Not because he is a bad QB. But because he was thrust into a system that relied heavily (at time too heavily) on his position. Last year, I thought he was the worst QB mankind had ever seen. When a RB was making better passes, I was sure he would be the first to go in the new era of Hog football.
That being said, I’m glad to see that he rose to the challenge and I’m even more happy to see that our coaching turned this horrible QB into a not-so-bad QB.
However I am extremely sad that this was the end of the season. With the exception of immediate family deaths, nothing to me is more sad than the end of the college football season. But next year looks to will be even more fun than the roller-coaster we’ve rode this year. And hopefully we’ll finally get revenge on a Nutt.

I understand where you’re coming from, Ron, and I’ll be ready next Spring to root wholeheartedly for our next signal caller. It’s just when you think about all the adversity Casey had to deal with and how well he did deal; I hope we get more young men on this team with that sort of character.
Next year’s team will have some character-building opportunities of their own with away games at Bama, Ole Miss, and LSU (not to mention Florida). Btw, will we get to start our long-term dance with the Waggies in that brand spankin’ new uber stadium next year? ;^)

I’m still not quite over that win. That was impressive!! Casey Dick played lights out and besides a few plays where he held it too long, he didn’t really make mistakes. I’m glad for him to have a send off like that. I remember the LSU game four years ago, one of Casey’s first, they were ranked pretty high, and we had a losing season. I just remember thinking that he was going to be pretty good. He made freshman mistakes but he looked really good, at least compared to the RoJo experience. I think the main thing that stopped Casey from being a better QB was that Mitch Mustain decided to recommit to the Hogs, and that he hurt his back before his sophomore season started. Because he would have been either the starter or the clear back up to RoJo. When he was called to play at the South Carolina game he played well, but after that I think he realized that most fans were upset that Mitch wasn’t playing anymore, and it seems to me that the pressure from that along with the pressure of the possibility of a National Championship game was just too much for him. Rather than enjoying the whole winning streak and feeling a part of it, he was just there to manage the game and make a few throws here and there. The entire time he was playing that season he had to look over his shoulder because the fans’ favorite QB was on the sidelines. And although Mitch wasn’t here last year, the pressure from the fans was still there. Oh yeah and the whole having a different QB coach/ OC every season probably didn’t help any either.
I don’t know I think it’s just fitting that he got this win after all he’s been through.

This game may have been a “meaningless” capstone to a disappointing season, but this is definitely the way that Casey Dick deserved to go out. After the monster block he laid on Chad Jones during last years LSU game, I swore I would never say another bad word about him. Althought I wasn’t able to keep that promise, I am glad that Casey will probably be remembered more his clutch performances than his inconsistency. Oh, and we kept The Boot.
If Green really is transferring to UA, that’s exciting. I’ve been around Arkansas sports long enough to know that something’s not official until it’s “official” (and sometimes not even then – See: Dana Altman), so I’ll proceed with a guarded sense of optimism. Our young group of receivers and tight ends are awesome. Our running back corps is small, but effective, and Green could definitely contribute without necessarily taking someone’s job. Ryan Mallett will hopefully thrive under Petrino’s system, and Nathan Dick shows promise (but also shows signs of Casey’s inconsistencies). Although I probably won’t be on campus in Fayetteville next season (and will probably be an expat all-together, maybe living in Texas [shudder])to see it, next season looks very promising. Pig Sooie.

Just curious: Has there ever been a college football game where two brothers threw TD passes for the same team in the same game?
by Hawgfan100 on Nov 28, 2008 10:08 PM CST reply actions
I’ve wondered about that myself HAWGFAN.
It’s rare that two brothers, playing QB, are even playing for the same div.1 school, much less both of them throwing TDs in the same football game.
