Announcing the First Job Rumor of the Petrino Era
Well, we knew this was coming. In what will likely be an annual December rite of passage until Bobby Petrino actually does leave, our shark-eyed coach's name is being bandied about in the Auburn rumor mill. Good times.
Yes, the Auburn rumor mill...after about a million good seasons Tommy Tuberville is out after a one ill-timed (in the sense that it coincided with Alabama's rise to power) bad one. Being a coach in the SEC is crazy.
So, to sum up: Tuberville out/rumor mill/wealthy Auburn boosters/denial from Petrino's agent/etc, etc. Wheee!!!
Discuss.

Someone needs to do their research: Petrino’s contract has a clause prohibiting him from leaving for another SEC West team. Check the link I provide above, It’s an Auburn blog and mentions Petrino’s clause.

All I am really concerned about in the end is how this might benefit the Hogs. haha. This means right now there are two schools in our division, Miss. State and Auburn, who are going to have their own coach transition issues. The messier those transitions are for them, the better I think it will be for the Hogs.

What if Tuberville ended up going to miss state. That might be fun to watch.

What’s the count on the pingbacks to Ol’ Shark Eyes now?

Just an fyi: even though Petrino’s contract says he can’t go to another Western Division school doesn’t necessarily preclude him from actually doing so. Courts are very fickle about enforcing non-compete clauses and even if a court would enforce it, there’s nothing saying that the U of Arkanasas would pursue that enforcement (although, I think they would if he actually went to Auburn this year, but who knows? It would depend on all kinds of things). Of course, the threat of that type of litigation is probably enough to keep Bobby in place for at least a while. I’m just saying, for our own emotional protection, let’s not allow ourselves to have 100% confidence that the non-compete clause will keep him from going to a Western Division school. Regardless, I personally don’t think Petrino is going anywhere this year for a number of reasons. That being said, I certainly can’t fault Auburn for trying to court him, since they are aware that he is a great coach.

Hog Blogger,
We don’t know. We don’t have a calculator that counts that high.

Petrino would have to have something to gain for his trouble first.
The question is, what would he have to gain by accepting the job? Nothing, except one big mess of exstreamly high exspectations, at a university that exspects to beat ‘Bama every year, not to even mention that Bobby would have to compete with Nick Saban for the best in-state talent every year.
Look at the recruiting position he’s in right here.
Like I said, what would he have to gain? NOTHING.
