What a Night
When I wrote last night's post, I only had access to the preliminary box score on Yahoo, which didn't include assists and rebounds. Therefore, I didn't realize that Courtney Fortson had notched a triple-double - the first Razorback to do so since Alvin Robertson against Texas in 1984 (that's hard to believe).
20 points. 10 rebounds (four of the offensive variety). And 11 assists.
As a team, the Hogs had 26 turnovers compared to 23 assists - not a great ratio, to say the least. But Fortson's turnover/assist ratio was respectable, as he turned the ball over four times.
The kid is a special player. I'm glad he's on our team.

The stats look a lot worse because the final 7 minutes the hogs stopped playing. I’m not saying they looked perfect before that, but they looked simply awful those last 7 minutes. I kept yelling at the TV as they kept turning the ball over and taking terrible shots, I seriously wanted us to break a 100, and with about 5 minutes to go we had 94 points, and it was just awful that we committed more turnover than points in that time.

On Fortson, I had been disappointed that the Hogs had lost Hall’s A. J. Walton to Baylor, but after seeing Fortson in action, I don’t feel so bad. They are comparable but I think Fortson is better.
By the way, I just came back from seeing Walton and 6-8 Parkview sophmore Aaron Ross, who committed to Arkansas as a 9th grader. Right now Walton is the better basketball player, but Ross, while still raw, has a big upside. He has smooth offensive moves and is a good ball handler and passer, but he doesn’t understand how to rebound and is a poor defensive player.
