Color Us Unimpressed

As has been noted many times before, the SEC is pretty much a murderer's row of coaches. In the West division alone, you've got two BCS championship winners (Les Miles, Nick Saban), one championship-winning offensive coordinator (new Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen), one shark-eyed killer (Bobby Petrino) and one wily madman (Houston Nutt).

So, if you're Auburn, and you've just jettisoned the guy who won more than 70% of his games, went undefeated in 2004, beat Alabama six straight times and was chosen as the 2nd best coach in the SEC in the prestigious Razorback Expats pre-season power poll, you'd better have someone pretty great up your sleeve to compete with that bunch, right?

Um, maybe not. Enter one Mr. Gene Chizik, he of the 5-19 career record as Iowa State head coach. Known as a defensive expert, his team ranked 111th nationally in total defense this year. And if I recall correctly, Auburn's biggest need was someone who could convince the offense to, you know, score every now and then.

Predictably, Auburn fans are not thrilled. And while we feel kind of bad for our friend Jerry at the Joe Cribbs Car Wash, as Hog fans we have to say that we feel pretty good about the situation (we can only imagine how Bama fans feel). So, thank you to the Auburn administration for a job well done. May the rest of the SEC follow your wise example.

You know who really thrilled by this Miss St., the FORMER doormat of the SEC west. Honestly, Georgia firing mark richt and replacing him with UGA XII makes more since that this hire.

Wow! and I thought that Arkansas situation with White, Broyles and Nutt was awful.
While it was bad enough, it seems to be cupcakes compared to Auburns misconceptions of running a program with a certain degree of integrity.

How does one man (Louder)have that much control over a university? I understand money talks, but what is it about the ex-HC of Iowa St. that stands out over a coach like Tuberville? I mean good grief, it’s not like you improved your stock or anything!
This whole thing stinks to high heaven.
Is Chizik a one year stand in for Louder until he can get the guy he wants next year or is Chizik really supposed to be the future of Auburn football?
Either way, how is this supposed to better the confidence of the recruits Auburn is still trying to court to their school? Maybe Louder has a few $$$$$$ bills for Chizik to hand out. That’ll get ’em back on track.

Not only did Tommy T win 70% of his games against Alabama, Auburn had the 2nd most wins in the SEC (behind LSU) during Tommy T’s tenure.

While our amateur AD was interviewing anyone who would sit with him at the Waldorf Astoria this past week, us Auburn fans were hoping it was a smoke screen while he was going after a Spurrier or a Cowher in the background. They even hired a search firm to assist with this, but apparently they were not utilized properly.

Tommy T was fired (he did not resign) because of Saban on the other side of the state. If you want to fire Tuberville that is fine, but have some clue as who the next guy will be. The new person, which is Chizik, will have to go to the same living rooms that Saban is going to. AU just lost the state as far as recruiting is concerned with this hire. This was Jacobs first big hire since becoming AD and the initial impression is that he has failed miserably. Hope all of us are wrong.

My first reaction when i heard about the hire was “are you serious?” I think this is really bad for Auburn, I mean since when can Miss State hire a better coach than Auburn.

At least it’ll be good for us.

If I were an Auburn fan, I wouldn’t be too happy, to say the least. But I could get happier if the new coach makes a really good hire at the offensive coordinator position. Wouldn’t it be funny if it were Franklin? haha.

John, you and Stephen should do your own version of SNL’s “Seth and Amy’s, Really?” as “Gene Chizik, Auburn, Really?” haha. “So, Auburn, you fired a coach who won only five games this year for a coach who has only won five games in his career, REALLY?” Haha!

Charles Barkley’s claiming it’s a race issue. Now, normally, I wouldn’t think anything about it, because everything is race issue with him. But, this time, he may have a point. Gill Turner is probably a better coach, and there’s probably no way that he would be demanding more money than Chizik. When you fire someone like Tuberville, you need to have a homerun in waiting. They clearly didn’t.
