Monday Morning Diversion

After a rough weekend (even in my most pessimistic preseason moods I didn't expect the Hogs to get blown out by Auburn at home), it's time to revive the Monday Morning Diversion feature.

So, put your worries aside and enjoy this picture of one of my favorite spots in the Natural State, Petit Jean mountain, at sunset. In the comments feel free to discuss Razorback gymnastics, football recruiting, a good movie you've seen recently, etc...just nothing about that sport where the guys try to throw a ball inside that metal circle.

John, thanks for the wonderful picture! With its more uplifting connotations, I’ll pretend that it is a sunrise we see in the picture. You know, if there is an object in the universe that cares less about Arkansas sports than the sun, I don’t think I’ve seen it, haha. Win or lose, it just keeps doing its thing! Astronomical charts show that it came out on December the 7th 1969 and set that afternoon, just like it had on December the 6th, 1969, the date that lives in Razorback infamy.

“Transsiberian” out on DVD is a pretty good thriller in the old Hitchcock mode. It is set on a train, and you don’t see too many movies these days set there.

As far as I know, Darius Winston is still coming to Arkansas to play football. Our secondary certainly could use his talents.

Razorback gymnastics. No matter how many times they looked to Tim Tebow’s picture for inspiration, Number One Florida still went down to defeat to Arkansas.

Well alright, I’ll go ahead and ask.

Is Hilary Swank hot?

Smells like an afternoon poll to me.

Hillary Swank is attractive, but she’s not hot. And the question is “is she hot?” not “would you do her?”. Respect the game.

Along those lines, maybe the Hogs need some of Michael & Dwight’s “be a shark” mentality.

Also, I should note that I’ve seen two really good movies lately: “State of Grace”, an early 90s gangster movie starring Sean Penn and the amazing Gary Oldman, and “Man on Wire”, a documentary about this totally insane/total genius guy who illegally tightrope walked between the towers of the World Trade Center in the mid-70s.

State of Grace was good up until the end (which kind of sucked), but Man on Wire ruled throughout. Highly recommended.

Related discussion question: The Office has had its moments this year, but overall, the season has felt a little flat. Agree or disagree?

by Stephen on Jan 26, 2009 1:57 PM CST reply actions

have to say man on wire is easily the best movie i saw in all of ‘08 and even tops the oscar noms i’ve seen in ’09 as well.

also good, King of Kong. also great, gunning for that no. 1 spot.

Re: “Man on Wire” — Does he fall off?

Re: Man on Wire

Don’t answer that.

On the subject of movies, I’d recommend American Teen also.

Additionally, I watched Raptor Island on the Sci Fi Channel last night. It’s magnificent.

Re: The Office.

This season has been pretty flat, although The Duel between Dwight and Andy Bernard was pretty funny. While The Office has been flat, I think 30 Rock has been consistently hilarious.

I’m reading To Kill a Mockingbird.

30 Rock may be the best thing going on TV right now.

I saw “State of Grace” when it came out. I was a freshman in high school. I see alot now on satellite and it is Gary Oldmans best performance. I recently discovered Hulu.com and am currently into season 3 of “NewsRadio.” Was great show until the tragic death of Mr. Hartman. You can also catch “The office” the next day on Hulu if you happen to miss it or just catch up on “Miami Vice” if you have a need for 80’s tv. Just thought I would share.

The Frenchman from the “Man on a Wire” documentary was on Colbert last night. He was so weird that he left Colbert speechless a few times! You rarely see that. I thought for a moment he might even break character.

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J. Jasper Howard had his little sisters' names tatooed on his chest. His friends say it was a constant reminder of why he was at U Conn _ to provide his family with a better life than the one he had in Miami's Little Haiti. (AP Photo/Mel Evans, File) link
