All Hail Jodie Meeks

45 points from Jodie Meeks (a Bud Walton record) + Courtney Fortson nowhere to be found = a 16 point Kentucky win. And with that, the Hogs' long losing streak to Kentucky continues (not to mention their Conference Season from Hell).
What do you think? What happens next?

Let’s just hope now that Courtney doesn’t decide to take the Motrell McDonald route.
This basketball team looked lost and confused today.
Kentucky, by no means, looked that impressive today.
Most of what they gained was because of what we practically handed to them.
I have no clue what’s in store for this basketball team, so let’s just forget about the wins and losses for right now, and just hope that we can keep our team together.
Has anyone heard any news on the where-abouts of Courtney Fortson?
Is he still on the UofA campus?
I can remember Jason Henry sitting on the bench after his indefinate suspension, but McDonald never reappeared.
I hope this isn’t the sign of something bad.

I hope I don’t lose too many fandom points for this, but I have to confess: I did not watch the entire game today. This was in large part due to UCLA-AZ being the CBS game of choice in my broadcast area. I did catch some of the game on the CBS website. My point, though, is that I missed out completely on the fact that Fortson wasn’t in the arena. Man oh man… I really don’t know what else to say.
I know this is a silly question, and I’m probably asking it at a bad time, but did Pel start the game with his red jacket?

I watched it all. But it was excruciating. Actually, I thought we played pretty good. That was pretty much all we had. And it couldn’t beat Jodie Meeks and a gang of not a lot. Guys, this is the lowest of the low water points. Right up there with the first two Nolan years in terms of decrepitude.
My take on Courtney: He either buys in and comes back, or not. Pelphrey cannot do it another way. But if he loses two from this recruiting class for attitude reasons, well, he need to judge character a little better. Can AJ Walton un-sign?
BTW, if that is all Kentucky has, they will not go far in the NCAAs. Someone. not the Hogs, clearly, will figure out that if you shut down Jodie, the rest of the team can’t pick up the slack. It was an easy win for the Blue, but not a telling one. They better get way better in a big hurry. Jodie won’t be on thhe team next year.

Sue,
I don’t know about the jacket – I think Pelphrey was without one from the start.
I watched it all too, and like J. Hawg, thought we played pretty well considering the circumstances. Tough, tough year.

I only watched about one minute, and in that minute Meeks had 7 points and we had two turnovers. I couldn’t stand it and just switched the set off.
I find it hard to believe that we are this bad — ugly bad. Unlike a lot of people, I don’t see us getting any better and I also don’t know what Pelphrey is doing recruiting-wise. This whole discipline thing is out of control — not that he is punishing people for breaking rules; he definitely is in the right on the suspensions — but that he recruited such players that have so little discipline in the first place.
We need more than two guys coming in next year who can help. I hope he finds some over the next few months, because two straight years of this and he will lose his job.

Out of the kids we have left playing, we have no height, and our overall athletic ability, compared to other SEC teams, is lacking.
The fact that we are relying on so many True Freshmen just makes it worse.
The timing of the Marcus Monk issue and the Courtney Fortson suspension makes our situation terrible.
Courtney can make or break the spirit of this team right now. They looked very confused at times against the WildCats, so let’s all hope this suspension works out for the best.

A bad day for the Hogs. Where were you Roland Sales? Oh, well. I agree with the theme here of questioning Pelphrey’s recruiting to some degree. You certainly need to look at more than just their ball handling skills. You need to try to recruit right attitude as well. I am sure coaches tell themselves that they can renovate an attitude if they see that as a potential problem. But ball shooting and handling are probably easier things to teach.

I must be swimming against the tide on this one.
I have done an 180-degree turn on Fortson. Despite his gaudy statistics, I think he has been hurting the Hogs since conference play started by taking on the whole offense by himself. Without him they might not have looked good against Kentucky, but at least they were running plays instead of standing around watching him dribble.

It’s just demoralizing when February is half over and basketball season is done and with the tradition and facilities we have it’s doubly demoralizing.
Also, other teams in the conference are playing several freshmen as well. We can’t keep harping on youth.
I never thought I would just not even care when Arkansas played Kentucky. I actually didn’t know the game was on until midway in the second half.
This is the worst Hawg bball team since the early ’70s.
