I Can Now Die Happy
That's because I met Dwight Stewart - perhaps my all-time favorite Razorback - and have the photo above to prove it. (OK, so "met" might be a generous term - I basically cornered him after Saturday night's dinner honoring the 1994 championship team and asked him if he had a second to take a picture with me.) One look at the photo and you'll know the moment was every bit as thrilling for Dwight as it was for me.
I've just returned from a fantastic trip to Fayetteville to attend the dinner and Sunday's battle for 11th-place bragging rights. The various championship celebration ceremonies were extremely well-done and very moving. I'll be posting photos and writing a post or two (or three) in the days ahead.
In the meantime, I'm left to ask, "Now that I've shaken hands with Dwight, what else is there?" Looks like a serious reading of this book is in order.

Another day, another photo with an admiring white boy. Haha. Hey, congrats, Stephen, on getting to attend. I look forward to reading your posts.

Stephen, I think Dwight looks a little freaked out by your hero worship. To be honest, it sort of freaks out the rest of us, too.

J. Hawg,
I’m OK with that. I’ll also say that I’m not the only Expat who hero worships Dwight.

For those of you who don’t know Stephen, that’s him on the right. Don’t let the big grin fool you, though – he’s a stone cold killer.
And yes, I’ve been a Dwight fan for as long as Stephen has, and probably would have been wearing a similar expression in the photo.
Little known Expats trivia: in college, Stephen and I were co-captains of an intramural team we named the Dwight Stewart Experience. Unfortunately, our team performance was about as bad as the team name was good, thus leading us towards a life of blogging rather than NBA stardom.

Stephen… you’re standing on your tip-toes aren’t you?
Dwight Stewart, lovingly remembered for dishing out the most important assist in Arkansas basketball history. Glad you had a good time, Stephen.

Actually, Sue, Stephen is taller than you would think a blogger would be.
I am anxiously awaiting the other posts. I think we may have finally lifted our version of the Billy Goat Curse. Well, I hope we have.

What a surprising day for me. I often think about adding my two cents to the daily articles, but I never have. I have read religiously for over a year now and I appreciate the recaps, opinions, and predictions very much. Great reading, much appreciated.
Today is surprising because only after seeing the above picture did I feel compelled to add a comment. From the picture, you two seem destined to hang out more. I am almost scared to see the other photos from the event (you smiling and Clint a little freaked out, you smiling and Scotty a little freaked out, you smiling and Nolan a little freaked out, etc.).
The Arkansas basketball National Championship next year is going to be even sweeter coming off a 2-14 campaign this year.

BTW, my phone has been flooded this morning by calls from Hollywood producers who want to cast Dwight and me in a remake of “Twins,” the 1988 comedy extravaganza starring Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

That’s the coolest thing EVER. I think it’s the genesis of a Hogs SEC title and trip to the NCAA tournament.
