Same Ole, Same Ole
Maybe we should honor the 1994 team at halftime of every game.
We've seen this play before: Good first half. Bad second half. Chances to win down the stretch. Alas, it all amounts to another loss.
Radio announcer Mike Nail just labeled the game "an absolutely crushing defeat." Given that really nothing was at stake, I wouldn't go that far. Still, not a fun evening.
Wait 'till next year.

One stat is same ol same ol, too. Welsh shot 19 shots, NINETEEN, made I think 4.
Washington shot 9 shots.
That’s not youth. That’s stupid coaching.

Left work at halftime with the Hogs leading comfortably. Got home to see that they had lost… AGAIN.
I am really and truly at my wit’s end with regard to this team. And that’s really all I have to say about that.
Can someone please, PLEASE, tell me why Jason Henry only played 5 minutes? It was a similar situation during our mid-week game last week. I’m not able to listen to the radio broadcasts, so if it was mentioned, I’ll apologize in advance for my ignorance.
Meanwhile… I’m watching the closing seconds of Mizzou’s dismantling of OU. /shakes head in disgust/

Henry got a ?concussion? during the last game, I think. Can anyone confirm? With Georgia’s win over Kentucky, we’re back at the bottom.

as far as poor coaching goes, if there was some tonight, it had nothing to do with welsh’s shooting save for possibly the last shot, which was likely a designed option off the play they ran.
ole miss did a great job in the second half funneling the ball away from rotnei and allowing welsh to stay wide open. as well as fortson. luckily, cortney’s shot was falling tonight, or it woulda looked a lot worse. but, welsh was not shooting by pelphrey’s design, just taking WIDE open shots, and even passed a few WIDE open shots that he normally takes. aside from demanding welsh not shoot, what’s pelphrey to do? welsh is definitely good enough to make WIDE open shots, he’s just been running ill for a while.
the second half ended up being fairly entertaining even tho the writing was on the wall when colonel reb went ahead for the first time. i thought our kids did well, and were very scrappy and fought hard on the offensive glass (didn’t have to fight on the D glass since they continually gave up easy baskets and got ole miss REALLY F’ING HOT in the second half) um, i lost my train of thought.
oh well. pin it on pel or whoever else, but the fact is, we’ve got some good kids that are gonna be sophs and if we add a few guys, hold on to mike wash and limit sanchez’ minutes next year, things will be alright.
of course, the ole miss froshes looked pretty tough as well.
pelphrey could explain what happend on the defensive end a little better, but until he gets nolan to show the kids how to really d up, i think i can understand we’re just not that good defensively.
vandy game could possibly(probably?) be worst of season.

I’m not blaming the coach, yet, but I have a couple of questions, too.
Vandy won at LSU.
Maybe they’ll be hung over.

Welsh is shooting under 20 percent in the SEC. He shouldn’t be shooting 14 3 pointers in a game, no matter what.
And you said that Ole Miss made adjustments so as to “funnel” the ball away from Clarke. Aren’t coaches supposed to figure out ways to funnel the ball to your shooters.
Pelphrey should tell him: Don’t shoot unless it’s a layup. And Washington should be getting 15 to 18 shots a game.
All that said, I’m for giving Pelphrey several more years to improve, but I have a lot of questions about what he’s doing and why.

I agree Tab. Pelphry is getting his pants pulled down. He is being out-coached. That has been hidden behind our youth and lack of depth but, the more you see these games turn on players, assignments, and plays that appear more and more obvious, the more you can see that Pel is in over his head. Maybe he can recruit his way out of this but he is going to have to do better than last year.
Too bad.

We lost? I am shocked! Okay, enough with the sarcasm.
Do any of the numbers people know if this is indeed our worse year in the SEC in the two major mens sports?
Football:
Auburn and LSU
Basketball:
Georgia and Alabama
Those are the wins! That’s averaging about half a conference win a month since September. Geez.

Kevin, without looking at the numbers, my quick guess would be that this has definitely been our worst combined football/basketball year since we joined the SEC.
But, on the bright side, I hear that the women’s ping pong team is really strong this year and is an early favorite to win the West, if not the entire conference.

Did Forrest Gump join the Women’s Hog Ping Pong team?
I am thinking of cancelling my ESPN Game Plan so I dont have to waste time watching us lose anymore. And I’ve had it for several years now.
I guess I’m losing my fan-ness.

John, yeah, it feels that way to me as well. Do you think we might have screwed with our mojo when we took the sloppering hog off the court? Maybe it was the force in the universe that held our conference wins together? haha.
Not the world’s biggest baseball fan, but this nadir of a basketball season and not so hot of a football season has me tracking the diamond hogs game by game. It is just nice to put a “W” up for a change. I hope that trend continues!
