Hastings Reflects

ArkansasSports360.com has some video clips of an interview with Scott Hastings that were shot after the former Razorback star's recent appearance at the Downtown Tip-Off Club's monthly luncheon.

Below is a clip in which 360 editor Jim Harris asks Hastings to reflect on his appearances in the NCAA Tournament. (One small, nerdy nitpick: Scott appears to get the 1982 Houston Cougars, which Hastings and his teammates defeated in the SWC Tournament final, confused with the 1983 squad, which lost in the NCAA championship game to North Carolina State.)

Be sure to head on over to ArkansasSports360 to see another Hastings clip, one in which he gives his take on the current state of the basketball program.

It’s funny, but I easily still remember that 16 ft. shot against Houston that Hastings made with about 2 seconds left.
What blew my mind, more than anything, was that while Hastings was in the actual shooting mode, before the ball had even left his hands, the television’s screen went blank, while the volume immediately turned into nothing but static.
My rearend was already coming off the couch, as to anticipate the shot, so as you can emagine, when this happened, I horrifically screamed, NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I paced back and forth, frantically awaiting something to happen, while the television continued to pour out the static, my mind racing, as I continued to whisper to myself, “please, make it…please, make it…please make it”.
The television came back on, and the Hogs were celebrating. Then, I got to actually see the shot on the replay.
The television station wrapped up the ending to the airing of the game by playing “celebration”, by Cool and the Gang.

Isn’t it amazing how those old Razorback memories can hang with you for a lifetime?
Hastings is only 5 years older than I am, (probably around 48) and I noticed how he looks like he could pass for about 60.
HOW DEPRESSING!

Gonzo,

I remember that also! So frustrating.

Back when Scott Hastings was playing for the Hogs I was going to Hastings elementary school. If you had asked me at the time, I probably would have told you that they had named the school after Scott, haha.
