For Those of You Who Wanted Billy Gillispie in Fayetteville Two Years Ago

It seems that he's now available.

So, who's going to replace him? Billy Donovan? John Calipari? Maybe Dana Altman for a day or so?

My money's on Donovan.

(Update: for the UK fan's perspective on this, be sure to check out the always-great Kentucky blog, A Sea of Blue. 436 comments on that post and counting!)

Hey, I can go ask Eddie Sutton over here to see if wants to crawl to Kentucky again? haha.

I think we dodged a bullet with Billy G.

I hope Kentucky gets somebody none of the fans are happy with. Just for schadenfreude reasons.

I hear Mike Newell wouldn’t mind moving from Monticello.

Well, I’m almost thankful that we did so terribly this year, now. There’s probably no way that Kentucky wants anything to do with Pelphrey, for the moment.

Well, we all saw this coming.

Someone with knowledge of contract law: please explain the validity of an unsigned contract. This would never happen, but could UK, legally, not pay him?

Donovan will be UK’s next coach.

Personally I don’t think Donovan would do it, but then again, money talks. Travis Ford might be going there being a UK grad and all..

Why would Donovan want the Kentucky job now when he didn’t want it in 2007? I think Ford is a better bet.

Well, for one, he’s not coming off back-to-back national championships. I think that created some pressure, perhaps of the self-induced variety, to stay.

I’m surprised y’all aren’t more concerned about UK going after Pelphrey. As DREW suggests above, maybe this season is a blessing in the long-run for Arkansas.

Disclaimer: I’m a lurker with no connection to Arkansas, and I went to UK for two years — during Pelphrey’s jr/sr seasons — but graduated from UNC.

I have to say the whole Gillispie (and I thought it was GillEspie all this time) situation makes me chuckle. He left $6 million on the table, he thinks he’s Bear Bryant when it comes to toughening up players w/ 2-hour practices on game day, and he saw no need to glad hand. Reading between the lines, he sounds a LOT like Matt Doherty as far as disregarding tradition and being an abusive S-O-B (not to mention the losing part).

Things could get very interesting locally if any of the rumors about NC State being interested in Gillispie are true.

I hope for the sake of Arkansas that Pelphrey is there for a long time — he’ll get it done.
