Tuesday Hodge Podge
* Nate Allen reports that both Ryan Mallett and Tyler Wilson are looking good in spring practice. The Razorbloggers, on the other hand, say it's "no contest" that Mallett will get the job. We just wish we could see what Gary "Peanut" Adams could do at the helm of the Petrino offense.
* We were too upset to write about this when the news broke last week, but Chris Bahn of ArkansasSports360 has reported that the Arkansas-LSU game is getting bumped from its now-traditional Friday-after-Thanksgiving slot in favor of some game called the Iron Bowl. Might I say that this totally blows...as a California resident, that's the one Arkansas game I could reliably count on seeing TV every year. Mr. SEC explains why this sucks for the Razorbacks (besides my own personal reasons, that is).
* Joe Adams is heating up.
* Speaking of Hog WRs, it looks like the eBay bids on Marcus Monk's car didn't match the minimum level to complete the sale. In other words, maybe it can still be yours if you want it! If you forgot to place your bid earlier, now's your chance.
* We know some of you are sick of hearing about Mitch Mustain and the drama of 2006-07. For the most part, we are too, but it remains (to me, at least) a fairly fascinating cautionary tale about big-time college athletics. If you're up for it, check out this post on the excellent Dr. Saturday blog...the title, "The Slow Fade of Mitch Mustain" says it all.

Wow, how sad to hear that the Battle for the Boot is losing it’s Friday slot. There are many reasons why I really liked the Friday matchup… not the least of which was that it gave our humble little state a sort of unofficial extra holiday, because, without a Razorback game that Friday, there are many people who will instead be going to work. There was something special about a one-team state basically taking a day off to cheer on that team. Not many folks get that pleasure and now we’ve lost it. Booo.

This stinks!! It was the one reason I looked forward to comming home for thanksgiving every other year. I took my wife (from Memphis) to the game last year to exposer her to the LR razorback fans. What a game!! She was looking to future games at the wonderful War Memorial stadium.
The piece on Mitch Mustain is worth a good read. I hate to say it, but I agree with most of the comments by readers at the bottom of the story. If he would have just played the game and not whined and complained he would be the starter right now heading into an award filled senior season (or is it junior; redshirts always mess me up.) I don’t wish bad things on anyone, but he kind of got what he deserved.
On a side note, Coach Cal was back in memphis for his annual fundraiser and the reception was a little chilly to say the least. Here is the article in the commercial appeal this morning.

I too am disappointed about the Arkansas LSU game moving to Saturday. I’ve read where Alabama and Auburn fans aren’t very happy about this move either. CBS just thinks that the Iron Bowl will bring a higher rating. It might. But have you seen any of those games of late? They haven’t been as exciting as the Arkansas / LSU matchups. And for the next two years, I don’t see Auburn giving Alabama a lot of trouble. So maybe after two cluckers, the powers that be will move things back to Friday for us. In the mean time, I wouldn’t be surprised if LSU does all that they can to get this year’s game to be a night game in Tiger stadium. The Hogs (players and fans) have benefited in the past from not having to go into that environment.
As for Mitch, I wonder if he is not the new David O Dodd of Arkansas? It looks like he ultimately sacrificied a college football career in the name of eventually getting rid of Houston Nutt. For that seems to be the major result to come out of his moving to USC.
ANOTHER HODGE FOR THE PODGE: Don’t look now, but our baseball team must have been talking to the basketball team. The Hogs beat number one Arizona State in two games, and now have lost three in a row. Ugh.
