Revisionist History, Perhaps?
Here's your fun quote of the day...Frank Broyles was recently interviewed by Nick Canepa of the San Diego Union-Tribune (as part of his Alzheimer's awareness activism) and dropped this bombshell:
When asked to be a TV analyst, Broyles embraced the chance. It kept him away from Arkansas football games.
"I wasn't going to be one to stand over my coach's shoulder."
You might be thinking that there's a lot to dispute about that statement, but it's actually true - as AD, he was more of a "get in the coach's face and tell them what to do" rather than a looking-over-the-shoulders kind of guy.

Do you like this story?

That’s a pretty good idea. You don’t want the AD to make the coach nervous.

And Arkansas really won the Great Shootout, right, Frank? haha.

Perhaps??
Frank has been known as Arkansas’ greatest politician. There is no greater talent in politics than to spin the issues in your favor. There is too much water under the bridge to sell that line but, you’ve got to give the old boy credit for trying.
He did go out with a bit of a thud. He is as tarnished as the old trophies in the Broyles Center. That is a shame after all of the work he put in building his legend.

I hate to say it, but things just don’t tend to end well at Arkansas. From coaches to athletic directors, rarely does one go out on top with everybody throwing confetti. (The track coach being a rare exception.) That’s probably true at most schools. But, yeah, Blindhog, Frank’s story should have and could have ended better at the UofA. Too bad it didn’t. Hitching your card to Houston Nutt at the end, not a popular move.
