Head Spinning

If you are trying to keep up with exactly who is on the basketball team's roster, you would be well advised to keep a supply of Dramamine handy. The number of players entering and exiting the program in recent times is positively dizzying.

The carousel continued spinning yesterday when the Hogs announced that Jeff Peterson, who started 25 games for the Iowa Hawkeyes this past season as a sophomore, will transfer to Arkansas. He will have to sit out the upcoming season, of course, and will then have two years of eligibility starting with the 2010-11 season.

At first glance, the 6-foot Peterson looks like a solid addition: He averaged 10.6 points, 4.2 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game last year. He made 83 percent of his free throws and nearly 40 percent of his three-point shots. Both of those stats should be welcomed heartily by a team that hoisted way, way too many bricks last year.

Furthermore, Peterson should help the Hogs with another statistic that they have royally sucked at recently: the Academic Progress Rate. According to ArkansasSports360.com, he was accepted to Princeton.

If all of the roster moves have you feeling dazed and confused, then you need to check out Chris Bahn's outstanding article on the situation, which includes this ominous passage: "Academics are a concern for at least two current roster members and as many as three incoming recruits. So, keep your fingers crossed."

In conclusion, Bahn adds: "Think long and hard before rooting for another coaching change anytime soon."

I said a couple of months ago, we might as well let Pel have 5 or 6 years. This train wreck ain’t goin’ nowhere. I’m just really sorry that White screwed up Frank’s deal with Altman. I know he is the coach we love to hate but, he would have had the class and experience to handle a long rebuilding job.
