Random Walk Down Memory Lane
Above is a YouTube clip of CBS' introduction to its broadcast of the 1990 Cotton Bowl featuring our beloved Hogs and the Tennessee Volunteers. Since it was a bowl game, the Razorbacks, of course, lost. But they actually played well — something we can rarely say about their postseason appearances — compiling 568 yards in total offense and 31 first downs.
We didn't know it at the time, but the game was Ken Hatfield's last as coach of the Razorbacks, and the program would spend most of the next seven seasons lost in the football wilderness. I was a junior in high school when this game was played, and I can remember watching it with a feeling of dread caused by the fact that school was set to resume the following day. Hard to believe that was nearly 20 years ago.

Stephen, I just spent a week back in Arkansas. And I found myself looking at objects around the house and saying “I’ve had that for twenty years,” and seeing places that brought back memories that prompted, “Well, that was twenty years ago wasn’t it?” Such is the time / space continuum, I guess.
I must have purged this Cotton Bowl out of my memory, but for some reason I recall the dull UCLA loss better. On the up-side, we did get two nice wins against Vols in the 90’s that won’t be forgotten.
