Arrrrrrrrrrrrgh: Florida 23, Arkansas 20

Well, that sucked.

After outplaying the #1 Gators for four quarters that definitely doesn't feel like a moral victory. That just feels like a vintage painful Arkansas loss. Way, way, way too many missed opportunities to regret afterwards.

We'll have more later, but for the moment we'll just say big props to the defense and Dennis Johnson - they were men today. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go bang my head against the wall for a bit.

I'm upset.

I don’t care how well we played, or how close we came to beating a #1 team. That was our win that Florida’s walking away with. I’m upset with all the points that we left on the field (I knew that poor clock management before halftime would screw up), I’m upset that Tejada is terrible. I’m really upset with the refs on Florida’s last touchdown drive. Those weren’t no calls; they’re weren’t penalties at all (especially the PF). It’s especially frustrating that it wasn’t called evenly, too (if that was PI on us, it should have been OPI when we almost picked it off in the endzone). The Hogs did a fairly good job of beating themselves (not that they didn’t play well); they didn’t need the refs to help out.

Just so you know...

If you are going to point out all the what if’s, well we had quite a bit too. Dropped TD passes, 2 fumbles inside the 20, missed FG. I would come in here and say you guys played a tough game, and had some bad breaks, as well as we did. But you act as if Arkansas dominated that game, any professional would look at this game 4 FUMBLESSSSSSS=BEATING YOURSLEF. The only thing that could stop us from scoring was us.

This is the third week in a row that Arkansas has faced a powerful offense, and shut it down (for the most part). At some point, it’s no longer a fluke. From my point of view, the fumbles were mostly forced (maybe one wasn’t), and you can’t argue with 6 sacks.

You shut thier offense down

I wont argue that. The running game was uneffective. I was just stating that I could sit there and say we didnt do this or that, we would of scored here or what not. It goes both ways.

Kicking Game suuuuuuuxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx!

Refs screwed us on gaytors last drive…Our defense really turned their season around…
But that aside, it’s time for Tejada to hang up the his kicking shoes. That was choke city. TWICE!! How bad can the backup be? And our kickoff and punting isn’t any better. It seems like the other team always starts out on their own 35 at least. Remember the days of Steve Little, Steve Cox, Ish Ordonez? How hard is it to get a good kicker to come to an SEC team?!!!

I want to point out

to all you fans, the penalties you recieved at the end of the game, argue them all you want, but its not like it was gurnateed that you would of stopped the drive without the penalties in the first place.

by Hook85 on Oct 18, 2009 6:57 AM CDT up reply actions

Really?

Let’s see. 30 yards of phantom penalties called against the Hogs and a clear offensive pass interference that was not called on the Gators. Wonder what you would be posting if you had those lead shoes on your feet this morning?

No, it’s not guaranteed, but it would be nice if the Gators had to earn that touchdown. The penalties game on good defensive stops, too.

Maybe you're right,

but given our defensive success during the rest of the game, I would have (not ‘of’) liked our chances.

I hate Tebow.

Jesus Tebow has now ascended to the right hand of God Almighty. I won’t even be able to check espn.com this week for all the Tebow babble. I will likely go insane.

Granted he did crush us on that last drive. His halo was too much for us on that 3rd and 10.

This is a tough loss. As a Razorback, you ABSOLUTELY don’t accept moral victories. Save those for other schools with lesser tradition. The Hogs, however, are a team on a big time rise and are making substantial progress on a week by week by basis. In year two of the Petrino rebuilding project it does lessen the pain a little to know that the Hogs dominated both lines of scrimmage and was likely the better team yesterday (the latter observation from College Football News) against the number one team in America. The progress is evident for all to see and we are earning respect as a result. The Hogs are rated 13th in the latest CFN ratings with a 3-3 record.

This was a game that the Hogs just didn’t close. We didn’t make enough plays to win a game against the number one team in the Swamp. Yes, the Gators made some uncharacteristic mistakes. Yes, the zebras hurt us there late in the game. On the other hand, the Hogs had some key failures of execution on the offensive side of the ball, Mallett misfires in the red zone, some drops the Tejada misses (we should just go for it on 4th down if we are outside of 30 yard field goal range) and a good number of penalties that were not phantom.

At the end of the day though, give Florida all of the credit. To win a NC, you have to be good and lucky. Florida is both and I am looking forward to the SEC championship and the Gator’s clash with Bama. Both teams have great coaches, defenses and special teams. Neither team has been an offensive juggernaut to this point, but I like Tebow over McElroy and that will be the difference in the game.

Where do the Hogs go from here? To Oxford for what we all know is the BIGGEST game of the year. If the Hogs can beat the Rebs, we are likely looking at the prospect of a special finish, a great bowl and another first rate Petrino recruiting class. We find our Hogs knocking on the the Gator’s and Tide’s door. Watch out SEC, the Hogs will soon be kicking those doors down.

I’m proud of our team. Yes, we failed to execute when it mattered most, but those Hogs played their hearts out. Also, as long as we beat Ole Miss, I can live with a loss to #1 Florida.

Still in Pain, but Still Blindly Optimistic

I am still upset. I just hate being so close to a major victory and not have things fall into place. I agree with the nice summary from noisyhog.
Same feeling I had losing to Miami at Miami.

After the Georgia game, I would have expected Florida to put up 70 on us. Nice job D!! Our offense was not phyched out like it was when we played Alabama (who I believe is clearly the best team in the nation), so the preparedness and confidence are growing.

It is time to win some games! Go Hogs Go! Still only 3 losses: 9-3 is going to be sweet!!
