Walk Down Memory Lane: the 2006 Auburn Game

Considering all that has happened in both programs since then, this game seems like it happened 20 years ago, not just three. Mustain ... McFadden ... Marcus Monk ... Nutt ... Tuberville. To borrow a song lyric from John Lennon

"So long ago
Was it in a dream, was it just a dream?
I know, yes I know
Seemed so very real, it seemed so real to me"

Malzahn ran a trick play from this game last Saturday night

I believe Reggie Fish was the ball carrier in the ’06 game, and Travante Stallworth ran it on Saturday

Thanks for stopping by, jd.

I see we’re both Cards fans. How are you feeling about the Dodgers series?

A little nervous

I’m just worried we peaked too early. We’ve played very poor baseball for about a month now. It’s definitely nice to have a 1-2 punch like Carpenter-Wainwright though!

I believe

in 2006 the Cards had a seven-game losing streak, and we ended winning it all.

I remember

that day well. And it does seem much longer than just three years ago. The clip of Nutt is soooo vintage Nutt!

What would you have said to a time traveler from the future if he had come back to 2006 at the end of the Auburn game and had told you that Mustain would ride the bench at USC, D. Williams would be playing at USC, Tommy Tuberville would be unemployed, Houston Nutt would be coaching at Ole Miss, and Gus would be coaching at Auburn in 2009? I don’t think you would have believed him. I don’t think I would have!

Nutt footage

I agree, Kevin: if you had 10 seconds to describe Houston Nutt to someone who had never heard of him, that’s the clip you would show!

I remember too

My first season as a Hog fan was the 2005 debacle. After the drubbing by USC early in 2006, I decided there might be better things to do with my time than “wasting” it on the Hogs. So, I spent the day doing volunteer work. When I finished, the game was still on, so I decided to check the score. It was early in the 4th, but the TV I was watching was blurry, so it took me a minute to realize what the score was. I don’t think I’ve missed a Hog game on TV since.
On another note… regarding Houston Nutt’s post game interview: Did we really put up with that schlock for 10 years and regard it as “motivational”?

I remember

as I was sitting in the Hogs fan section in JH. And I forgot to apply sunscreen that day also. Not fun! lol
