Whew!
The basketball Hogs required an overtime tonight to defeat Appalachian State, 81-72. If that sounds depressing, consider that the last time these two teams hooked up, Appalachian State won.
Living the rock-n-roll lifestyle that I do, I didn't listen to the game or follow it in real time. A quick glance at the box score, though, generates this thought: thank God for Marshawn Powell.
Please chime in with your thoughts in the comments thread.

I t
i didn’t watch orlisten to the game wither, but it seems that we ran out of steam in the 2nd as we blew a 15 pt halftime lead. Hopefully we get some of the basetball players back so we can stop playing the golf and football players. But hey, I will see this game as a demonstration of a team digging down deep to pull out a tough win. Go Hogs, national champions 2010!!

R. Clarke has become our clear cut leader on the floor,
which is a shame, because Washington should be dominating everybody.
Did anyone else see the red flag at Louisville? Is S. Samuals really that much better than Washington?
M. Powell has become the dominant force inside for this team in a very short period of time.
The problem is, no one understands why.
Why is it that every freakin player from the Heath era always has some kind of playing issue?
Even when Welsh was still playing, he was always inconsistant at best. I just don’t get it.

Appy Game
Marshawn Powell is a beast. He does not play like a freshman. I expect he will be in the draft after his Jr year. He carries himself well and has the basketball maturity of an upper classman. Very fun to watch. I have to admit, for me the surpise of the year is Nobles. I did not think too much of his signing when Pel inked him but he is really turned out to be a dependable point guard. He doesn’t seem to get rattled by the press and his assist to turnover ratio is pretty impressive for a newbie. Fortson should be taking notes.
I was in NLR in 2007 on a Turkey day visit home and was very disappointed in the Appy St loss. I was hoping for a better performance Friday but I’m glad we didn’t collapse and lose the game.
I agree Washington doesn’t seem to be himself just yet but he also has a better supporting cast than last year. I’m hoping he gets fired up and starts dominating before SEC games begin. WPS GHG!

Nobles is indeed impressive ...
I worry that he’s going to be gassed soon, though: He played the entire Louisville game and all but one minute last night. Hurry back, Courtney – Julysses needs a back-up!

Powell is definitely an uprade over Sanchez ...
He did another of those catch the ball in mid-stride, dribble once and slam home a monster dunk. He was strong inside, but made his mid-range shots and was 2 of 4 on 3-pointers.
Washington on the other hand, does look out of shape and his game has gotten soft. Most of his shots were outside. And did anyone catch what Bobby Knight (cursed be his name) said about him? When the play-by-play guy in the Louisville game mentioned Washington passing up the NBA for another year at Arkansas, Knight laughed that Washington had better stay in Arkansas for a long time.
Nobles does not have Fortson’s quickness or explosiveness, but he is a better team player. He appeared out of his league in the Red-White game, but since then he has looked much better.
With Farmer, Nobles and Powell, the starting lineup is better than last year, in my opinion. But depth is still an issue.
