Hogs Double Up the Dawgs: Arkansas 42, Mississippi St 21

Or maybe it should be Mallett: 35, Dixon: 14? At any rate, the Hogs won the first, second and fourth quarters en route to a solid 7th victory. Can we get 8? Or 9? We'll have more on that in the coming days, but for now let's appreciate this one.

Thoughts, observations and concerns about Ryan Mallett going pro are encouraged in the comments section.

Mallett Should Stay

But, if he gets hurt playing for the Hogs next year, that is a bad call. His value will rise dramatically if he can continue to improve and do some big things team-wise next year. He would be a second rounder at best this year.

First four-game winning streak since the 2006 season.

So much has happened since then. That year almost seems like a decade ago.

Hearing Andre Ware say that Mallett should at least explore going pro was one of the few bad things about the afternoon – well, that and watching us try and stop Dixon.

Okay so now that Ole Miss won...

We are in a very good position to win 3rd or possibly 2nd place in the west. If somehow Mississippi St. can win next week, and if we can beat LSU, then we would have a better divisional record than either LSU and Ole Miss, so that would mean we could potentially be in 2nd place in the west!!!

a worrisome thought.

I’m starting to groan every time I see Mallett throw another brilliant pass—does each one make it a little more likely that he’ll think “I’m about ready to go pro”? Today’s box score won’t even reflect a couple of stunning plays that got called back, including the long pass to Childs that Childs just happened to catch out of bounds, but still loped with it into the endzone.

I think Mallett still has some work do to...

before going pro. Hopefully, he won’t buy into all of the hype. True, he’s got pro talent, right now, on his best day (and probably on some of his bad days, too). But, he’s still got major control issues, and showed that he’s not above throwing multiple picks in a game.

Not Yet

Of course, I say that with my heart not my head. Although my head tells me that Mallett is smart enough to realize that he is not there yet. Why go now in the second round when he could stay one more year and be in the top 3 next year. He still has a lot to prove at Arkansas and I think he feels like the team could be much improved next year. Don’t go just yet, Ryan. Give yourself a chance to be successful at the next level by being better at the college level.

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless
