Monday Morning Bowl Breakdown, Part 2
When the Hogs beat Troy for their sixth win, we started tracking their possible bowl destinations (according to the top prognosticators, at least).
After another week of SEC craziness (Les Miles, we're looking at you) the picture seems to be becoming a bit clearer: with a loss to LSU Arkansas is looking Liberty-bound, but beating the Tigers in Baton Rouge could very well have them picking Cotton (which would be awesome).
Here's the breakdown:
Chris Low, ESPN.com: Liberty Bowl (vs Conference USA TBD)
Stewart Mandel, SI.com: Liberty Bowl (vs Houston)
Mark Schlabath, ESPN.com: Cotton Bowl (vs Oklahoma State)
Bruce Feldman, ESPN.com: Liberty Bowl (vs Houston)
CBSSports.com: Liberty Bowl (vs East Carolina)
CollegeFootballNews.com: Independence Bowl (vs Iowa State)

Is the Independence Bowl better than the Liberty Bowl?
If not why would we go there if we already have a liberty bowl bid?
I'd say Liberty is better
Liberty is played Jan. 2nd with a $1.7 million payout vs Independence on Dec. 28th and $1.1 million payout. The only thing I don’t like is playing the C-USA team in the Liberty vs Big 12 in the Independence.
CFN.com saying Arkansas to the Independence just confirms my thoughts regarding that site… they don’t know what they’re doing. Everyone else obviously got the memo that the Hogs were invited to the Liberty Bowl. Hell, Schlabach even thinks we’ll beat LSU this weekend. CFN.com: a day late and a dollar short.
Even if we lose...
Against LSU, why wouldn’t we go to the Chik-Fil-A? Would we even want to go there? I know that it picks before the Liberty Bowl, but I’m not sure if it’s a “better” bowl. I only ask because Rivals currently has Auburn at the Chik-Fil-A, and the Hogs at the Liberty. All things being equal, the Hogs should get picked for a bowl before Auburn (I know it’s a bit more complicated than that). Quite frankly, I’d rather take a shot at Clemson than Houston.
No one really knows for sure
what’s going to happen. If Arkansas knocks off LSU, Ms. St. could still beat Ole Miss in Starkville. If that happens, the SEC West has 3 teams at 8-4. If Auburn is lucky enough to knock off their biggest rival, Alabama, that’ll be 4 teams ar 8-4.
What a freakin mess that would be.
