Heartbreak in Death Valley: Arkansas 30, LSU 33
After a valiant 2nd half effort, the Hogs did everything but win. We'll have more later, but for now I'm just too spent to write anything remotely insightful.
If you're up to the task, leave a comment and let us know what you think.

that OT was over before it started
I’ve been conditioned by Houston to expect at least 3 or 4 of them.
right on
I can’t say that I will miss him either

4th and 2
Who is more likely to succeed – Mallett and the offense, or your field goal kicker who pulled his last made field goal and made it by inches? And has a history of not winning games in pressure situations. I love all that Alex has done for the Hogs and hope he has a great bowl game, but I don’t think anybody in Arkansas would have blamed Petrino if he had rolled the dice and said, “Offense, pick up two yards!”
If the pass goes to Joe Adams
I think we have a high percentage chance of those two yards and a TD. Petrino basically did what most coaches would have done by putting the field goal kicker out there who had not missed all game. But we’ve known Alex T. longer than Petrino has known him, and the whole state was saying, “Oh, no, please don’t put this on Alex’s shoulders!” This was a go unconventional moment of go for the win that Petrino let go by and I am sure now is on a plane and wishing like hell he hadn’t.
Expectations
Maybe this is a spring board to bigger and better things? You hope they do learn from this game. They can compete in a nationally televised, pressure situations. 2010 – Expectations. Don’t ya just love the sound of that? We are a program on the rise and we must all be patient. It will happen.
LSU fan here
Great game. And I agree with you when you say you are a program on the rise. Much to my chagrin, I can’t think of any program that resembles LSU right before they entered into their golden era this decade as much as Arkansas does right now. Southern school with decent ties into Texas recruiting pool . . . check. The only relevant program in the state (should we begin a thread debating which program is more irrelevant: Tulane or Arkansas State) . . . check. Enough history to show that being a dominant program is possible (even if hasn’t occurred recently) . . . check.
Very quietly, the Arkansas/LSU games have been one of the most consistently close/exciting rivalries in the SEC. Every game the past 5 years has been down to the wire. Based on the current trajectory of your program, I would not be surprised to see that trend continue.

I'm suprised we gave the ball back to them to start the OT.
I say that one is on Petrino.
After LSU’s offense gained a lot of rythem on that last regulation drive, Petrino instructs M. Smith to defer the ball back to LSU after we won the coin flip to start the OT?.
That was the reason Tejada was put in a pressure situation to begin with.
Mallett could’ve also not started out with that kind of pressure.
If Mallett doesn’t lead us to a TD in that situation, then Tejada doesn’t have pressure to win the game, but even if he misses that kick, the pressure would still be on LSU’s young QB, and eventually could have been on their kicker as well.
We saw last week how they handled that kind of pressure. We should have put them in that kind of situation as many times as possible. That was a mistake.

Most people agree
it is best to put your opponent on the ball first so your offense knows what they have to do.
Frankly with the way you guys play in the red zone and had been moving the ball against us I really didn’t think a FG was going to win….
GEAUX TIGERS!!!
Hurts Like the Florida Loss
I am still in pain from yesterday, but not sure if this hurts more or less than the Florida loss.
At least Georgia gained some credibility yesterday.
Go Hogs!
(I guess the U of Houston is our match-up in Memphis? We should be favored in that low-scoring battle.)

Good game.
If y’all like, keep the boot. I’m sure we’ll just stick it in a broom closet somewhere. Hopefully, we’ll stick our uniforms from yesterday in there as well, to never be seen again (hopefully).
uniforms
I hate to admit this, but I actually liked your uniforms from yesterday. The helmets were cool.

Props to Joe Adams
What a warrior!
After that hit from Jones, I stood up and was legitimately concerned about his health.
And then he came back and scored the TD. And everybody in the state of Arkansas was ecstatic…..I know I sure thought that was it and we were picking cotton….what a blow the final score was.
Anyways, back to teh point. Adams was the only receiver that looked good.
To be frank, Childs is king of a pu$$y. How many dropped passes did he have? He was definitely afraid of getting lit up by those badass LSU DB’s.
Wooo Pig
Childs
cant run curl routes or stop routes. He to much of a puss. But throw to him along the sideline and he’ll catch it.

I can't believe any Hog fan would complain about Greg Childs!
The man caught 124 yards worth of passes yesterday, including a huge 23 yard catch on a 3rd & 20 on the final TD drive. Plus, he’s been a consistent weapon all season long…give the guy a break.
also, on the subject of toughness
Given that I’ve never run any sort of route against an SEC defense, much less gotten tackled by one, I try not to question any player’s toughness. Unless you’ve been out there playing at that level, I suggest following the same policy.
Generalrazor, were we watching the same game? As John said, Childs had 124 yards! I am full of respect for Joe “Take This Stroke And Shove It” Adams, but to say that he was the only one who looked good is a stretch. Yes, he had the HUGE TD, but only had 2 catches for 13 yards.
Speaking of Joe Adams, did anyone else notice that he got knocked out for a minute? If you watch the replay, you could see him twitch for a couple of seconds after that hit. Then he seemed to “wake up” and looked a bit out of it after that. I wouldn’t be surprised if we find out soon that he has a concussion. That hit was brutal. I read an LSU blogger who wrote that you could see Jones move his head to the right before impact. I would like some of what he’s smoking. Sounds like it’s killer.

I admit it was an overstatemnt
that Childs was a wussy.
BUT, he dropped too many passes for sure.
