As expected, all-everything recruit Michael Dyer has committed to Auburn. Not only was he the top recruit in the state, he's one of the top high schoolers in the whole country.

Should we be concerned?

Not a big deal

Of course any team would love to get a commitment from a player as highly touted as Dyer, but the addition of Dyer (assuming he comes close to meeting expectations) to the Hogs will not significantly improve the Hogs offense. We have a stable of good, but not great, young running backs and clearly our recruiting priority is on the other side of the ball. In sum, the Hogs are pretty stacked at the RB position and need to focus their recruiting on D; the addition of Dyer would not have a significant effect on the Hogs offensive capability, and probably no effect on the Hogs W/L record. Plus, these types of player have huge egos and don’t want to share the ball. I think we experienced enough of that with the Springdale kids. Go Hogs!!

RE:My hope

Just Kodi Burns 2.0 is all that he amounts to there. Turn your back on the Hogs will ya!

not THAT big a deal

Well, might as well admit that it’s a bit of a PR blow when the top-rated recruit in the state elects to go elsewhere, and it doesn’t help that he goes to an SEC West opponent. And that it’s Auburn, who also snagged Burns and Ziemba. But I think it’s also true that if BP had been salivating over Dyer like he did over Wingo last year, that things could’ve been quite different. And I agree with marquisc51—he’s not a recruiting priority from a roster-building point of view. Whereas previous coaches have made a big to-do about building a wall around the state of Arkansas and letting no in-state talent leave, Petrino sees it the other way around—that there will be no wall preventing out-of-state talent from coming in.

Dennis Johnson will be a great back. Also everytime one of these local guys shun the Razorbacks for another SEC school they always suck. Cedric Houston, Kodi Burns, there was a wide out that went to the Vols that I can’t think of but they never succeed.

You’re probably thinking of Slick Shelley. He’s from Fort Smith, went to Tennessee, but now he plays for Tulsa.

After I’ve had some time to think about it. What a bitch. Afraid of a little competion. He is a more complete back with more pedigree than the kid they have there now so I guarantee they threw alot of Ben Tate’s season to him and gave him the inpression that he will have that opportunity.

With Johnson, Wingo, Knile Davis, and BG, we’re set at RB for a few years with RBs that actually fit into the system. It would have been nice to have Dyer, but he alone wouldn’t have won us any games, just like not getting him won’t lose games for us. The Hogs will be fine.
