A Liberty Bowl News Nugget

The announcers for each SEC bowl game have been announced. Arkansas draws Ron Franklin, Ed Cunningham, and Jeannine Edwards. I caught Ron Franklin's crew in the Conference USA Championship game last week. I still love Ron's voice, but he did seem to have his befuddled moments, though not nearly as bad as Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson in the SEC Championship game. Both of whom put in a very subpar performance for their last SEC game of the year. The announcer who said you are a better person just for meeting Tebow is . . . guess what? announcing the Sugar Bowl, Tebow's last game. That would be Thom Brennaman. I think I'll watch that one muted. Kirk Herbstreit and Brent Musburger get the National Championship call. What are your feelings about television annoucers for college football? Favorites? Can't Stands?

ECU fan coming in peace

Hey guys, just wanted to stop by and check out your site. Looks like we should have a great game.

I like the choice of Franklin to cover the game as he called the 1992 Peach Bowl we played in. Still probably our most exciting game in history.

Still not a crook!

Thanks, and I agree with thebeave – Mike Patrick is by far the worst, football and basketball.

Verne

seriously needs to retire…seriously.

Even putting aside the man-crush he has on Tebow, it’s hard to argue he hasn’t lost it. The “wow!!!”s on random and unimpressive plays such as three yard gains on dive plays, the “how do you do”s on just about anything, constantly getting names and formations wrong – it’s awful. I mean the guy honestly questioned whether Childs’ fumble on the goal line in the Florida game constituted an incomplete pass.

It’s gotten so bad that I’d actually prefer listening to Chuck Barrett when the hogs play on CBS – Chuck Barrett!

The best part is when

Gary D. just sits there after Verne commits a particularly egregious blunder………awkward silence………..

Lee Corso: How would you describe tailgating at Alabama?
Kirk Herbstreit: Barbecue and Ralph Lauren

I do like Ron Franklin though

and am glad he’s doing our game. I wish ESPN would put him back with Mike Gottfried on Saturday night SEC games.

Favorite Sideline Reporter

Erin Andrews. Especially at the Hog-Georgia game.
I wonder if she has done an Ole Miss game this year…she needs to be a little careful there.
Much better looking than Verne.

Ron Franklin's....

Voice simply sounds like college football to me. I get the feeling he enjoys what he’s doing without having to be overly dramatic. Brent Musberger on the otherhand?…over-hypes EVERY gig he gets….dragging his bag of “over the top” cliche’s into the booth with him and he generally reminds me of the half pint guy who was never much good at anything athletically. It’s clear he enjoys hearing himself talk. I have a hunch he spends hours in front of a mirror practicing his latest obnoxious concoction of color commentary that he’ll be bursting at the seams to spew at the earliest opportunity. Just my opinion!

As for my Pirates and the Razorback faithful….here’s to a great Liberty Bowl and the hope that all the kids emerge from battle healthy.
