Surprise, Surprise: Jason Henry Won't Return Next Season
In what is probably the least surprising news to come out of the basketball program in recent times, John Pelphrey announced last night that forward Jason Henry will not return to Fayetteville for his sophomore season. The 6'6" native of West Memphis may have been the most talented member of last year's recruiting class - witness his 27-point, 12-rebound effort in the Hogs' road loss to South Carolina - but it was obvious to anyone paying attention that Pelphrey wasn't exactly enamored with him.
Even after some outstanding performances by Henry, Pelphrey's praise was noticeably guarded, and the coach suspended Henry a whopping three times. Yes, Pelphrey seemingly can't go a day without suspending someone, but still - that's a little eye-popping.
Hopefully, this will work out for the best (although the Hogs' APR score will presumably take yet another hit), but Hog hoops fans can't help but be a little weary of all this by now. Of the six members of last year's recruiting class, exactly two are still with the program. We remain fans of Pel, but clearly he and his assistants need to do a much better job of finding players who will mesh with his hard-ass, bring-your-lunch-pail style of coaching.

I like Pelphrey a whole lot, but he’s doing his best to make it hard.
I don’t care whether he kicks him off or not, but this is on him for bringing guys like this into the program. Pure speculation here, (isn’t that what blogs do best?) but I feel like he might not be doing his homework on the background of these guys.
People don’t become disrespectful douches overnight. He should have seen this coming. And if he did, and thought he could put up with it/change it, then saw he was wrong after a year and pulled this?
Well, he might be in over his head more than any of us figured.
I want to give him the benefit of the doubt. I really do. But 2-15 is 2-15. No way around that.

A few questions
Learning of this raises a few questions for me. First of all are we technically in another “rebuilding” year again? What are the chances we do any better than last year’s abysmal SEC record? and my last question, after all the cuts/leavings do we finally have enough room and scholarships for all of our recruiting class?
The girl in high school who is always going through a breakup
Yeah, I think we are all wondering now about how good of a job Pelphrey is capable of when it comes to judging character. Or maybe he can judge them pretty well, but thinks their talent is worth the risk of whether he can turn them around or not. An out of the box idea of sorts. Is there an NCAA rule against letting the coach’s wife go along on recruiting trips? She knows better than anybody what it is like to live with John Pelphrey. Wouldn’t she be a good judge as to whether the coach and the player will be a good fit? The assistant coaches, there might be too many “Yes men” there. But not with the wife!
