First Day of Practice Open Thread

After an interminably long offseason, the first day of football practice has begun, meaning we can officially start counting down to kickoff against mighty Missouri State.

With that in mind, we'd like to open the floor to you guys. Any topic is fair game, but here's a suggested one to get things going: what are you most looking forward to about the season?

I'll say that, in a general sense, I'm excited about turning on the TV on a Saturday afternoon and watching the Hogs march up and down the field against whomever. I really enjoy the combination of a nice fall day + the Razorbacks. In a more specific sense, I can't wait to see what kind of crazy offensive attacks Petrino has dreamed up, not to mention seeing how the QBs do. And the running backs. And receivers. And defense. It's a pretty long list, actually!

War Me-what-the-heck?

I was talking to my dad about purchasing a few tickets to the season opener. He told me that War Memorial has several new restrictions… including a “no-cell phone rule”. Can you guys tell me what’s up with that?!

I have no idea...

…but I heard that instead of calling the Hogs, fans will be encouraged to instead politely ask the Hogs for a moment of their attention.

:)

My Dad was telling me that the University is apparently kind of mad about having to drive to Little Rock to play two of their home games, so the restrictions are a means of deterring fans from going to the games in Little Rock.

That doesn’t seem the least bit logical to me, but, I wouldn’t exactly be surprised.

I'll test that rumor out

What are they trying to do? Fly War Memorial? I don’t believe this rumor could be true. But I will test it out on the 5th. Can’t wait for it to get here!

Cell phones and then back on subject

The cell phone prohibition sounds like a great candidate for being a silly rumor. First, how would they possibly enforce that? They’re not going to confiscate phones and they’re certainly not going to turn away phone toting fans. They’re also not going to have the ability to eject or otherwise police fans who are using a phone. I mean, if they can’t seem to stop me from drinking whiskey during the games, I doubt they’re going to have much luck stopping cell phone chatter. Second, a quick check of the new website for War Memorial shows that cell phones are not listed in the prohibited items list: http://www.wmstadium.com/stadium-info/a-to-z-guide

Now, back to the original question.

I’m looking forward to seeing how all of the freshmen from last year have grown and matured after being thrown into the fire last year. I’m also looking forward to having a QB who can throw downfield for the first time in years. I’ll be curious to see how stretching the field vertically might change the dynamics of our offense.
