I voted no, but only because I can’t see the team he’s assembled win very many games this year especially after all the eventual suspensions.
I still like Pel, and think he will be a good coach sometime, but unless he wins and wins BIG, I just don’t see how the fans and staff can overlook all the other stuff, even if it’s not his fault.
I voted no
for largely the same reasons as you guys did. His two-year stint in Fayetteville feels like it’s been 10 years.
I don't know
But I voted “yes” because I think the rise of the football and baseball programs is going to take some heat off of him. And I think we’ve been through such a long stretch since Arkansas basketball really meant something, that apathy is setting in. Who will be shocked if we have another bad season? If the admins do decide to let him go, they better have a firm committment from a new guy in their pocket. We don’t need another Dana Altman circus! And given what has been going on of late, who would want to be that new guy? Hahaha, probably could get Billy G now! NO WAY!

I voted no...
…for the same reasons as listed above. I kind of hate to be that way, but there it is.
I know that, politically, there’s no way this ever could have happened b/c of the way Nolan went out, but imagine how things might have gone had we hired Mike Anderson back in 2002.
I was very close to voting no, but I voted yes because
I’m just not sure that there will be ANYONE out there who would want this job one year from now, other than Stephen Expat. Of course, that’s a bit of an exageration, but this coaching job is the garbageman position of basketball right now: it may pay enough, but the product stinks and the customers want results in 7 days. I don’t think Jeff Long will repeat the mistake of not having someone lined up and shopping around for someone to line up will yield such sorry results that the best option will be keeping Pel around one more year.
Of course, the uprising from the fans could be severe enough to mandate change, but I would expect more apathy than uprising, like KevinHog said.
You raise a good, but very depressing, point
However, I do like the idea of drafting Stephen to coach the Hogs. Many of you may not know this, but he was the player/coach of a champion C-league intramural team at our Division III college, so he has the kind of pedigree that will really command respect from the players.
If Coach Pelphrey and his team could have some success this season. I wish he could keep his job and not be fired in April 2010. Some fans say fired him, because Arkansas has the money to get "a big name coach to come to Arkansas, no big name coach wanted it in 2007, but they seem to think one will suddenly jump at the chance in 2010 maybe a coach from a neighboring state. Maybe he would or wouldn’t . I don’t know. But as one person said on another site yesterday said that Coach Pelphrey is not the first coach to have this happened to their athletes. All of these coaches kept their jobs. An Arkansas newspaper reported that Arkansas had 3 incidents like this in the past. Bottom line folks Coach is not winning enough games and folks that is the bottom line.
