Know Your History: The Hawgs and the Dawgs
Drop these fun facts at your next cocktail hour and watch yourself become the hit of the party:
• If the Razorbacks manage to beat Georgia this Saturday, it will mark a depressingly rare occasion in the series between the schools. Heading into this weekend's showdown, Georgia has an 8-3 record against the Hogs.
• Arkansas has won a mere 11 bowl games. However, two of those victories have come against the Bulldogs: a 16-2 victory in the 1969 Sugar Bowl and a 31-10 win in the 1976 Cotton Bowl (the latter game marked Frank Broyles' last bowl-game appearance as Hogs' coach).
In fact, Arkansas has played more bowl games - four - against Georgia than against any other team. The Bulldogs beat the Hogs 20-17 in the 1987 Liberty Bowl and 24-15 in the 1991 Independence Bowl. With three post-season games against Arkansas, Oklahoma is the Hogs' second-most-frequent bowl-game opponent.
• The Razorbacks and Bulldogs have met one other time in a non-regular-season setting: the 2002 SEC Championship Game. This one got really ugly really quickly: the Hogs had a punt blocked on their first possession, and Georgia scored on its first five possessions for a 23-0 halftime lead and a 30-3 win.
• Arkansas' only win against the Bulldogs since joining the SEC came during Danny Ford's first season as Hogs coach, on Oct. 2, 1993, in Athens. The Razorbacks won 20-10.
• In 2005, the Razorbacks posted their second consecutive losing season with an ugly 4-7 record. However, the Hogs played well against No. 4 ranked Georgia, losing 23-20 in Athens. The game was the first of two narrow losses that season to Top Five teams. In the season finale, the Razorbacks lost 19 to 17 to No. 3 ranked LSU.

Stephen, just read
this on another site. I had not thought of it until now, but sure enough. This game on Saturday against Georgia will be Petrino’s 14th game as head coach of Arkansas. Remember, Petrino had coached 13 games when he left Atlanta. So that the 14th should fall against Georgia, kinda poetic, don’t you think? I hope it is poetic justice for all the crap that has been said about him and Arkansas, and the Hogs whoop the Dawgs soundly.
