Renewing an Old Rivalry

Stay connected for news and updates

When Arkansas and Texas A&M square off this Saturday in Dallas, it will mark the first game between the former Southwest Conference rivals since Nov. 16, 1991. On that date, the unranked Hogs carried a 5-4 record and a two-game losing streak into College Station to face the No. 13 Aggies, who rudely extended the streak to three games with a 13-3 victory.

However, the Razorbacks have usually prevailed against Texas A&M: since the series began in 1903, Arkansas has compiled a 38-24-3 record against the Aggies. Here at Arkansas Expats, we're excited about the imminent renewal of our rivalry with Texas A&M. To help you get in the mood, we present the clip below, which features highlights from one of our favorite games between the teams: the 1986 showdown at War Memorial Stadium. (The clip was uploaded by YouTube user acnhs09.)

To set the stage: the Aggies were ranked No. 7 and the Hogs No. 17. Arkansas prevailed 14-10 after deflecting the Aggies' fourth-down pass attempt into the endzone with just seconds remaining in the contest.

I attended the game and remember it being about as picture-perfect a Little Rock fall afternoon as you can imagine. Definitely one of the highlights of the underrated Hatfield era. Good times.
