Road Warriors: Arkansas 80, Ole Miss 73

This is not how I expected Arkansas' two-year SEC road losing streak to end: against a ranked Ole Miss team. Tad Smith Coliseum has been the Hogs' house of horrors: Coming into this evenings' contest, the Razorbacks had won only one of their games there since 1996, and they usually looked god-awful in the process.

But they looked damn good tonight - and they did so without Courtney Fortson for most of the second half. There were heroes galore tonight: Michael Washington, Marshawn Powell, Rotnei Clarke and Julysses Nobles. Even Stef Welsh, for the second game in a row, turned in a solid performance.

We'll weigh in with more thoughts tomorrow, but we want to get your take on what very well may be the biggest victory of the John Pelphrey era.

Woo Pig Sooie!!

We won at Ole Miss in 2004-05, but that may be the only time between 1996 and now that it happened. I’m shocked, and definitely pleased that it came out this way. As long as we stay focused, this season may turn out alright after all. WPS.

WPS!!!

We can’t win the NC without starting to win some games! (What, too much extrapolation?)

Who gave the team the Tim Tebow-esque pep talk after the Kentucky game? Nobles?

Still playing hard

It’s a long conference season but you have to give these guys credit for not giving up after the Kentucky debacle. Unlike Thursday night’s virtuoso performance by Fortson, this win was a great TEAM win.

Agree on all counts

Tonight’s victory couldn’t have have been more different from Thursday’s: so many guys made big contributions. Fortson looked plenty pumped when Rotnei was nailing all of those late-game free throws, so I think he was just as happy with tonight’s win as the one against Mississippi State. That’s good to see.

Can’t get over how well Washington and Powell played. They were monsters. And Julysses turned in very steady, calm minutes in Fortson’s place. Just a great, great win.

RPI

Hey, we are up to 133 in the RPI. If we gain 40 spots a week for a few more weeks….

It seems like just a week ago...

That we were in 200+ territory.
Wait… it was just a week ago (give or take).
If we continue to win some games and only drop games to teams that are ahead of us in the RPI, we’ll be okay.

><

We still play Auburn twice and LSU twice. Next game is Georgia on the road. This team has a favorable road ahead and the potential to do impressive things this season. Of course, don’t be surprised if road woes continue, and if winnable home games are unexpectedly lost.

Our inabilty to rebound still worries me. Ole Miss out rebounded us by 10 in the first half, but we broke even in the 2nd half. I don’t know if some of their guys got into foul trouble or what the reason was. Anyway, beating a top 25 team on the road seemed impossible until tonight, so this game was a pleasant surprise no doubt. I like our chances of going 7-9 or 8-8. I guess we are on the bubble for the NIT (yay…….) Go Hogs!
