A Stormy Affair*: Arkansas 38, Ole Miss 24
Before the game, I worried that our home state would lose its collective mind if the Hogs suffered a third straight defeat at the hands of Houston Dale Nutt. Well, the Hogs finally beat their old coach, but I still may have lost a little of my sanity in the process.
The Hogs' sluggish second-half play, Ole Miss' post-intermission revitalization and two - two! - delays caused by lightning storms had me pulling my hair out. What a perfect game for Houston to win, I was thinking. I'm kind of shocked it didn't end up going into multiple overtimes.
Thankfully, Knile Davis was there to make sure that all was right with the world. Yes, you read that right. Knile Davis, a member of the Hogs' much-maligned backfield, had a monster day, rushing for three touchdowns and a total of 177 yards on 22 carries. In particular, his two fourth-quarter TDs steadied the Hogs' listing ship.
Kudos also go to Tyler Wilson, who stepped in once again to perform admirably while Mallett was sidelined for ... well, we're not really sure yet. Presumably it had something to do with last week's concussion, but that's not clear at this exact moment.
Mallett's status isn't the only question hanging over the Hogs as of now. For starters, how serious are the injuries suffered by Greg Childs and Joe Adams? And why does Arkansas consistenly look, well, kind of terrible in the second half?
Maybe the hours and days ahead will provide some answers, but for now, let's raise a glass to Davis, Wilson, Cobi Hamilton and all the rest who made just enough plays down the stretch to make sure the third time against Houston Dale Nutt was the charm.
What are your thoughts on today's win?
*I wanted to use "Lightning Strikes Twice" as a headline, but Matt Jones of WholeHogSports beat me to the punch. Damn you, Mr. Jones!)

According to the Twitter chatter
Ryan suffered a shoulder injury during the game and couldn’t throw deep. Initial indications are that it isn’t serious.
rm
read that mallett’s shoulder was injured in 3rd quarter, not seriously
we need something on defense — have no idea what
What we need on defense......
is called LB depth. Hopefully, recruiting will address this issue over the next couple years.
If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits eighty-eight miles per hour.....you're gonna see some serious s***.
running
very nice to see a running game though
Adams and Childs...
Childs came up limping after fighting for more yards after a reception in the 2nd half. Didn’t look too bad, so hopefully it’s not.
Adams… who knows? I never saw him get injured, he just wasn’t around. Very, very puzzling. Hope they’re both okay.
Adams...
He went down after that no call on an obvious horse-collar tackle.

not so sure
It had the result of a horse collar, but I thought the reply clearly showed it was a clean tackle by the should pads. Just a funky fall to the ground.
mixed emotions
I though we did better in the 4th quarter than in prior games. At least we did what was necessary to get the win. Kniles was awesome. I hope he can keep it going. Tyler, you are the man! The Nutt monkey is off our back. While the defense did good at times, other times we looked like the Keystone Cops. I am not one to call for anyone’s head, but I"m having serious doubt now about CWR.
i would have cried
if we had lost. but the rain would have washed it away. CWR really gave me a scare because UM came and scored 24 on us. 10 is forgivable, but 24? glad to finally score some in the 2nd half though. 1st game this season we didn’t throw for 300 but i guess it doesn’t matter when we can run it on them.
Outstanding performance by Knile Davis.
I was waiting for the day he would be able to show off his break away speed. We saw it yesterday.
We still have a little too many breakdowns in the secondary for my taste, but what can you say about our run-defense? We punked out Masoli almost the entire day. He had very few solid runs. Scott was their best runner yesterday.
Our STs coverage still looks a little sub-par, so combine that with our secondary, these are the 2 areas we still look somewhat weak. I was very satisfied with everything else.
masoli underperformed
because he is a terrible decision-maker. so many times when he could have run and chose to throw. watch the espn3 replay (i have no life and i go to the game AND watch it online) and they point it out.
John,
You watching McFadden have a good day against my home team? Not a lot of yards, no, but one heck of an effort for the endzone!
Stay Classy San Diego.
