The Hogs Are Heading for Sugar!

When, several weeks ago, the scenarios required for Arkansas to make a BCS bowl began appearing, they seemed almost too far-fetched to invest much hope in: the Hogs had to beat three ranked teams (two of those games on the road), mighty Alabama had to lose twice and Auburn had to win out. And yet, here we are...heading to the Sugar Bowl to defend the SEC's honor against perennial conference punching bag Ohio State.

Make no mistake about it - this is a huge step forward for the program. After years of fans fervently hoping for a breakthrough that would usher the Razorback into the top tier of the SEC, it's finally happened. And, although nothing is certain, they seem poised to make a nice stay there: rather than hoping to occasionally play above their level and knock off a highly-ranked team, they now expect to win every game. Big victories are beginning to feel more like a tough team taking care of business than glorious, out-of-the-blue miracles.

We'll have much more to say about all that (and the actual game against Ohio State) in the coming weeks, but for now let's take a breath and savor how far we've come in just two years. Very, very impressive.

And, of course, none of this would have been possible without a big win today by our frenemies over at Auburn. Special thanks are due to Cam Newton, Gus Malzahn, Gene Chizik's sideburns groomer, the mysterious booster who kindly donated the money to help rebuild Cecil Newton's church, the NCAA compliance investigators and all the other Tigers out there who contributed.

We will remember 2010

What a fantastic season. I can still remember the low feeling after the Alabama game and how we played so sluggish against Texas A&M, then came Auburn. That was a rough stretch. But the Hogs showed some fight and got better as the season progressed. The defense got a lot better and Knile Davis staked his claim. All in all, just a fantastic season

huge step forward

This is the first time in years that I have actually looked forward to the next football season. Usually, this time of year, we are saying, “Thank goodness basketball season is here.” Thanks to Long, Petrino, and the team!

Happy for y'all.

Hogs earned it. I pull for all SEC teams at this time of year—and game against most NC foes during the regular season (can’t pull for Aubie though this year with Cam on the team, Go Ducks!). Go Hogs! Have fun and light up tOSU in Nawlins.

Thanks, Auburn...

For keeping your end of the bargain. Now, I hope the NCAA gives you the Death Penalty, and salts the ground in West Georgia’s Finest Cow Town so that nothing ever grows again.

I was thinking this morning about where this program was just three years ago ...

Nutt left/was fired after a disappointing 2007 season, and many members of the national sports media were shaking their heads and wagging their fingers at Arkansas and telling us we couldn’t do any better than The Rev.

The talent cupboard was pretty bare with DMac and Felix Jones leaving early, and the search for Nutt’s replacement was becoming a joke when we nabbed Petrino. And then of course we remember the thermonuclear blast of criticism levied at Bobby and the Hogs in the days after the hire.

We’ve come a long way, baby.

No doubt

We lucked into Petrino, but he has totally turned the program around. Dare I say we could use the same sort of turnaround in another major sport?

Woo Pig Sooie!!!!

BCS baby!!! Great day for Hog Nation!
Not all our goals were accomplished this year, but being #2 in the SEC is alright.

Beat Ohio State! Miami got screwed in their NC game against them in 2002.

HAHA!

Good call! Too bad all the buckeye fans (like myself) will be joining you guys in the Clarett jokes!

Best of luck to you guys! Hopefully the buckeyes will make a game of it! (unlike the beatings in 07 to Florida & 08 to LSU)

umm

Nah, I’d much rather see TOSU have the same result as the last few times they have faced an SEC team in a BCS bowl. Would be fun to see all sorts of Hogs get to play in the game since we are putting it on them. Too many times we have been at the bad end of bowl games. I think my ticker would take it much better :)

- You couldn’t be more wrong.

“Let the Maurice Clarett jokes start in 3, 2, 1….”
- You couldn’t be more right.

Looking forward to a good game, should be fun times. Go Buckeyes.

Congrats, Hogs

Congrats on the BCS invite. Hope y’all keep the SEC streak over tOSU alive! I can’t believe this is your fist “BCS invite” (like you’ve never played in the Sugar Bowl or anything). Congrats on your great season. Well earned.
