O Me of Little Faith: Arkansas 71, Seton Hall 62

I will admit it: When Arkansas found itself down 51 to 50 after leading by as many as 17 in the first half and by a dozen at intermission, I was convinced the Hogs were going to lose. Most of the second half was as ugly as all get out, but I think the Hogs showed something by gathering themselves to walk away with a nine-point victory.

The hero of the night was undoubtedly Delvon Johnson, who had 10 points, 12 rebounds and 8(!) blocked shots. It's early yet, but off the top of my head, I can't recall another Hog player improving so dramatically since Nicky Davis seemingly came out of nowhere to become a rebounding machine in his senior season in 1998. Kudos to Delvon.

Julysses Nobles also deserves a special mention, as he finished with 19 points and really helped the Hogs build their big first-half lead.

The Hogs look pretty rough at times and halfway decent at times. All in all, about what I expected so far. They seem to have a good spirit about them, and the season is early yet. Here's hoping some good times are in store during the rest of the year.

Great game (I’m glad it was on ESPN2 so I could watch it). Clarke had quite a few shots go “in and out” and aside from allowing Seton Hall back into the game, it was a quality game. And like already said, this is about what one would expect from this group at this point.

Confession

I thought it to Stephen, at that exact same time, but only for a second. Then I remembered how I’ve stopped thinking like that about the football team and thought to myself “Don’t go there”. Hogs came back. Delvon looked great. Good win.

Delvon Johnson

is a beast down low. If he develops into an offensive weapon. Our frontcourt could be better than it has been in a few years. As Dykes said, he really needs to call for the ball and attempt to get open more frequently.

We’ve got athletes for sure. I just don’t think we have that coach that can squeeze all the juice out of what he has at his disposal.

Best game yet for Marshon Powell

He showed flashes of his old form. We need him at full strength. Solid game from Wade too.

Powell, Nobles and Scott all looked great at times and terrible at times. Enjoyed Scott in the radio post-game show describe Johnson as “killing.”

Caught some of the game for once

Completely baffled by the court. It had Kentucky’s name on it (why?!), a Big East logo, and obviously isn’t Kentucky’s actual court. Would appreciate some enlightenment on this point.

I’m pretty sure the Big East logo was there because this was part of the “Big East Challenge” series. I think (but I’m not sure) that Kentucky’s colors are on the floor because this is their secondary “neutral” site, like us and Little Rock.

about the court

they said that the SEC/Big East Invitational was paid for by an arm of Kentucky Boosters, thus the Wildcat floor. They had to put one Big East logo on the floor to be “nice” there was an SEC logo on the other end.

You know it had to drive Louisville peeps crazy to see that Wildcat floor in Freedom Hall.

Thanks

Seems completely bizarre, and I seem to remember the announcers thinking as much too.

Missed game

Work emergency. But surprised we won. I guess I am going to have to give these guys a chance. But I am not willing to get to emotionally involved just yet. I can’t take more heartbreak.

Good W for the Ball Hogs

Beating a Big East team on a neutral site will help their RPI. Let’s hope they can win more than last year. It was nice to see the Hogs play ball on TV. I have been away for several years and have not had a Hog B-Ball fix in a while.

It would be great if the Basketball Hogs could make the NCAA the same calendar year as the Football team is playing in the BCS. Time for a rebounding of all Hog sports. I know I am dreaming a bit, but it would be nice
