Time for a Poll: Just How Bad Is It?

These are tough times for Razorback basketball fans. For those of us who came of age during the Eddie & Nolan eras it's quite disconcerting to see the Hogs struggling to remain in the NIT hunt. Younger fans are likely still looking for their first taste of basketball greatness, and older fans may be searching for the appropriate comparisons to the immortal Duddy Waller and Lanny Van Eman eras.

But how does the current situation compare to similarly unpleasant past seasons? To answer that question, we turn to the most accurate method we know: a highly scientific ArkansasExpats.com poll. Cast your vote on this all-too-sobering topic and then let us know why in the comments section.

This year

Last year was bad because we had such high hopes after beating Texas and Oklahoma, but we really ended up where we were picked to be, even though no one imagined that we’d be 2-14 bad. I’m going with this year because we lost non conference games to teams we shouldn’t lose to anywhere for any reason, then we get blown out by Kentucky (they didn’t even beat LSU as bad as they beat us), go on a run that, in the end, isn’t going to mean anything because we’re not even going to win the West (we might even lose out; and it’s not like winning the West would be that hard this year), and then going down to LSU and getting completely smashed by one of the worst teams in the entire nation. When we were on our winning streak, I never felt comfortable with Pelphrey and never thought they we had actually improved. We won because of Fortson and Powell’s attitude to not lose. The last three losses shows that we really haven’t improved a whole lot, and I really don’t see us improving next year or the year after that. This season sucks so much because it 100% guaranteed Pelphrey’s return for next year (although it was never really in jeopardy, but you could make a case to fire him if we ended up doing almost as poorly as last season). Next year we’ll have a more experienced Powell, which is great, but he isn’t a Michael Washington – when he’s healthy and willing to play, that is.

I hope I’m wrong about Pelphrey and next year, but I haven’t seen anything to make me feel any different.

The Tweener season (coaching search)

I’m an Other. Even though it doesn’t count as a season, the coaching search between Heath and Pelphrey was the most gut wrenching for me. As sad as these past two seasons have been, they would have been worse under Dana Altman. No one wanted the Arkansas job and we must remind ourselves of that . CJP needs at least one more yeaer to have been given a fair shot. That’s just they way it is.

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J.
