Is Jerry Jones Trying to Bring the Hogs and Fighting Irish to the Big 12?
Based on a chat with a source "familiar with Jones' thinking," a Kansas columnist says Jerry is.
Brandon Marcello of The Slophouse does a nice job of placing the report in some context.
By the way, I just chatted with a source familiar with Jones' thinking - and that source informs me that Jerry could really go for half a dozen scotch and waters right about now.

RE: Rubish
The guy over at mrsec.com today had an article about this and listed many good reasons why Arkansas should stay in the SEC. I sent him an email thanking him for being the voice of reason and representing what I think a lot of Arkansas fans think. We don’t want to leave the SEC, and if our admins did try to take us to the Big 12, then they would be, in my opinion, about as popular in Arkansas as BP executives are in Louisiana right now. If Jerry Jones cares about his alma mater, than he’ll want the Hogs to stay in the much more stable and better thought of SEC.
I'm not sure which is more annoying...
People who advocate kicking us out of the SEC under the false proposition that we “haven’t done anything worthy of staying” or the people who think we would actually want to leave the SEC of our own accord.
No Big 12
As an Arkansas fan living in Oklahoma, I can tell you that the Big 12 never has worked and that most of the teams in it do not like each other enough to have any conference loyalty. Texas is out for Texas, Oklahoma wants money so it always goes with Texas, KU believes it is the academic champion of the group, the rest of the schools just want to be somewhere. We DO NOT need to Join this group that will NEVER be a REAL Conference Family that cares about the good of the whole about each of its members.
Arkansas has proven they belong in the sec on the field
I’m an LSU fan and we have won the west and have been to the SEC championship game four times. Arkansas has won the west and have been to the SEC championship three times-although they did not win the games(probably should have beat the Gators in 2006 if Fish did not fumble the ball)-but that is the same number of times as Auburn, two more times than Miss St., and Ole Miss has never been. So, I do not understand the group of sec fans-I would hope a small group- that would want to kick Arkansas out of the league. I have seen several arguments by SEC fans for Texas A@M to choose to join the SEC, and I agree they should get far away from the new Southwest Conference headquartered at Austin. So, we should give credit to Arkansas, who once again has proven they can compete in the SEC on the field for not giving into Texas’s threats in 1991 and doing what A@M should do right now.
Living in Austin
Living in Austin, I can tell you that the Big 12 is no prize. It is Texas and everyone else. I think the conference is going to suffer with just 10 teams. You have Texas and Oklahoma and then a bunch of has beens. If those two teams ever have down years, the conference will resemble Conference USA. Texas doesn’t play anyone, aside from Oklahoma, that is BCS worthy. I pray we never leave the SEC.
You are precisely making the argument for Arkansas in the Big XII
One thing that this conference has is money and the potential to make money. That’s the only reason that Texas et al. are together in this conference. Yes a 10 team conference may look unsustainable in the long term but that’s precisely why the Big XII needs Arkansas—which will add stability. It will also balance out the power that is concentrated on Texas to some extent. Although I am a Texas A&M Aggie (so you I already have a bias towards having Arkansas to the conference), I think Arkansas will find tremendous acceptance and will lead to the long term stability and prosperity of the conference across time.
Texas owns the Big 12 in recruiting and will continue to own it for a long time
There are four teams from Texas in the Big 12 right now. From the espn recruiting site: of the 24 espn 150 players from Texas in 2010, Texas got 13 overall, and 6 of the top ten in the state, Texas Tech 0, Texas A&M 3, and Baylor 1. The rest of the Big 12 schools Okl. 7 espn 150 players-2 from Texas-, Neb. 1 espn 150 player, Okl. St. 1 espn 150 player, and 0 espn 150 players for Kansas, Kansas St., Iowa St., Missouri ,and Colorado. If you look at the last ten years I’m pretty sure the numbers break down similarly. Arkansas got 1 espn 150 player in 2010 which is not bad for Big 12 standards already. They have an opportunity on the field this year to win the west. If Arkansas were to go to unstable Big 12-stay in the SEC and get the same money if not more- Arkansas would get the same recruits from Texas it gets right now in the future. Just look at the other schools in the Big 12 particularly the other three Texas schools who have gotten no top Texas recruits for many years. Oklahoma has a lot of tradition to sell-7 national tittles and 5 Heisman Trophies-so they will get recruits and not just from Texas. One thing I noticed is Arkansas should recruit better in Arkansas with other SEC schools raiding the state of their best players-Auburn particularly has a verbal from the states highest rated player and they signed the highest rated player in the state last year.
