Around SBN: Shaq As Orlando Magic General Manager? Don't Bet On It

Arkansas 44, Tennessee Tech 3

The first game of the season is in the books for the Hogs and, as expected, it wasn't much of a test for the boys in red. Although it's hard to complain much about a 41 point blowout that saw Ryan Mallett go 21-24 for 301 yards and 3 TDs, but it was beset with plenty of first game sloppiness for sure...penalties, missed tackles, turnovers, etc. We're going to need crisper execution in SEC play for sure (ok, maybe not against Ole Miss).

In the end, though, all that matters is that the Hogs won, nobody was injured and the season is finally underway. And on that note, I'll turn the floor over to you. What do you think about the game?

Quiet 1st quarter BUT...

I enjoyed watching the game and see the guys get the jitters out.
A couple of points to ponder:
1) Penalties! – 50 yds+ in penalties will shut us down against a UGA or BAMA. We have to see improvement there.
2) Turnovers: The guys will definitely be doing some bloody alleys and re-learning how to hold on to the football while moving!!!
Overall, it is what I expected. I was hoping Tyler Wilson would do a little better than he did, but don’t be too down on him, he is much better than those few minutes. Can I get a Thumbs up for our place kickers?!?! Tejada was great and Zach Hocker (Russellville HS) is going to be star!!
Looking to next week, I want to see more of the same minus the penalties and turnovers. Let’s take it one game at a time and as always… GO HOGS!!!!

Good take rsn

Obviously we weren’t world beaters but I was pleased with the D tonight.

Can’t wait to see em live next week! WPS!

Just got back from the game.

And, all of this must be tempered by the level of competition, and some of it will be a repeat of rsnookjr, but…
1) Anthony Leon at LB works really well. He was supposed to be head-hunting safety, but couldn’t read the coverages and ended up being a liability. He was moved to LB less than 2 weeks ago, and did he ever pick it up quick. I lost count of the number of times I heard “Anthony Leon with the tackle for a loss”.
2) Tejada deserves a big thumbs up for getting kickoffs into the endzone on a regular basis. Big thumbs up. Hocker looked poised and confident on PATs. I would have liked to see him on some FGs, though.
3) The defense, as a whole, deserves some props. Again, I realize who we were playing, but this will give them confidence, at least. There were still some issues with CBs getting burned, but I believe they were true freshmen.
4) We didn’t get “Citadel’d”, like OM.

I agree

1)Leon proved that the move to LB was a great one! He is going to be a beast in no-man’s land and I was super impressed with his ability to get beyond the line of scrimmage and read the offense!
2) I think Tejada has found his calling in kickoffs; although I did see Hocker kick a kickoff in high school that went through the uprights! Lol! Also, Hocker barely knew what missing a FG was in high school. (He will be invaluable if we let him kick the FG’s)
3) Considering the flight of secondary players we were using for a lot of the game, I think they held their own. Room for improvement? Yes, but that will come with experience and maturity. I saw a lot more out of the defense as a whole than I expected and was pleasently surprised.
4) I understand that this was Tenn Tech, but technique is technique no matter who your oppenent is. If the technique is there, then the plays will happen!
and…
5) HDN was embarrassed today and I didn’t feel the least bit sorry for him.
