Don't count Arkansas out as National Championship contenders.

I posted this in the comments section of Acme Packing Company's "Late Night College Football Open Thread: Upset Weekend" story, and thought it would be worth reposting here.

Star-divide

If you think about it, this year’s Arkansas team parallels this year’s Packers team pretty closely (other than the fact that the Razorbacks are mere mortals). Tyler Wilson is hands-down the best quarterback in the SEC (which isn’t actually saying a lot). One could make a very strong argument for their receiving corps being the best in the nation. Chris Gragg, quiet though he has been most of the season, exploded tonight into a TE that might draw comparisons to Jermichael Finley (okay, maybe that’s a bit of a stretch). Arkansas is primarily a passing team, but can get it done on the ground with their duo of RBs, Dennis Johnson and Ronnie Wingo, Jr. Their offensive line shows moments of weakness, but Wilson can extend the play with his legs long enough to get a pass off to his huge arsenal of receivers. The defense has been this team’s biggest weakness so far, but has recently stepped up its game significantly. It’s still not the best defense in the SEC by a long shot, but at least they can compete with the anemic offenses of Alabama and LSU. If you think the Packers are hard to stop this season, take a close look at Arkansas. My money’s on them to lift the crystal football at the end of the year.

We were too one dimensional

Kniles Davis obviously would have made this a different season, let alone game. I wonder whether we could have won against either Alabama or LSU, though. But without him, we were out of quality runners. Johnson, Green, and Adams were not in the league of great runners in the pass, much less McFadden and Jones. LSU did not have to come up with much of a game plan to beat us.

Hope Davis is better for next year, some better runners choose us instead of the east division teams, and we get some bigger horses on D.
