Missouri, your rival?

Mizzou fan here.  My question your you , Arky fan, is simple.  Do you see Mizzou as a rival (or at least good potential rival)?

As a Mizzou fan, I'm adjusting to the thought of life in the SEC, even though anybody can understand why somebody would jump the Big 12 (10) to join the SEC. One thing that would ease my mind is having a strong rivalry game.  If Missouri ends up in the SEC, and specifically the SEC East, who is Missouri's rival?

Star-divide

Given that Mizzou has little if any history with any SEC East school (anybody with any evidence to the contrary, feel free to bring it forth.  I suppose we did play Vanderbilt in basketball last year...) the selection of the cross-division rival becomes even more important.

Clearly the easy move would be to match Mizzou with their old conference mate Texas A&M.  However, Missouri was already in a conference with TAMU--abeit briefly--and few would argue that any real passionate rivalry ever developed between the two schools.  The game, that I see, with the potential to develop into something significant is a regular matchup with Arkansas, our neighbors to the south.

So Arkansas fans, how do you feel?  If you you were the SEC Commissioner, or the President, or God, how would it be?  Would you keep playing South Carolina every year or would you play Mizzou instead?  I'm interested in your thoughts because I honestly have no idea how ya'll (because it's the south, right?) feel about South Carolina or Missouri.

Missouri had been a rival

in basketball for a while.

Also, I don’t see Mizzou going into the East.

Arkanas-Missouri

has been a rivalry waiting to happen for years. Kind of like WVU-Kentucky.

definitely missouri.

as a kansas native, i cant stand them. would love to continue the dominance down here in a conference they dont belong in. LSU was my most despised program after moving to nw arkansas, as missouri only upset me when i read comments on blogs and yahoo articles from their fans. then bcs darlings ohio state crept in there as a top 3 because their fans are such arrogant elitists. now….with missouri abandoning their conference and leaving the big 12 hanging, abandoning a 100+ year rivalry, and being driven by money, i am proud to say that i once again, despise them the most. i guess the thing about it that does make me happy is that now they have even less chance to ever hoist a trophy.

p.s. dont take this the wrong way. yes i am upset about them leaving the big 12, but despising a rival is all part of the fun. :)

A good hatred goes a long way towards a good rivalry and I like that.

I would like to see Mizzou play Arkansas as well. A hate rooted in your home state of Kansas is good to and valid. I know I won’t change your mind on this but I have to put it out there. I don’t see how MU left the Big 12 hanging. MU is the 3rd school to leave not the first. Conferences are like a business and the schools like business partners. Normally the partners would work together to make sure they were able to have the most successful partnership and business. However when one or two partners care little for the rest it makes them look elsewhere. Clearly the SEC works together to make the SEC the best. Texas cares little for the rest of the Big 12. I agree the move was driven by money no argument from me there. Missouri has repeatedly offered to continue the rivalry with KU and examples of those types of long out of conference rivalries can be seen all over college sports. KU also turned up it’s nose at that. To be fair both schools have a part in abandoning that 100 year rivalry.

MU was the 4th school to leave the BigXII (-4)

Nebraska, Colorado (often forgotten), Texas A&M, then Missouri.

TCU is to “replace” Texas A&M and West Virginia is to “replace” Missouri.

true...

they werent the first to leave. still…they could have stayed. be a leader, not a follower. plus, all it means for misouri is being 3rd tier for a long time. they cant even beat baylor in the the little 9. oh well, whats done is done. the little 9 will somehow survive, without them.

Mizzou would be a great rival BUT...

…we totally own South Carolina right now and I’d hate to give that up. Memories of that last game we played against Missouri that is officially never to be spoken of on this blog are dancing in my head.

I had forgotten about that.

Purged it from my mind. That was the year after the Wisconsin game I purged too right?

I want Missouri to replace SoCar as our permanent East opponent

It would make sense in every conceivable way.

I would like that.

I think that Arkansas v Missouri could be a good new rivalry. Battle of the Ozarks
