Crazy 1st inning dooms Hogs in SEC tourney opener
Helped by some timely errors in the field and timely hitting at the plate, Bama opened the 2011 SEC baseball tournament with a 5 run first inning that proved too much for the Hogs as Bama rolled 7-4. Randal Fant was charged with the loss after failing to make it out of the first. Brandon Moore pitched 8.2 innings in relief, giving up only 2 runs and saving the bullpen for what will be a long ride if the Hogs are going to fight their way out of the loser's bracket. The Hogs got on the board with 3 runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth; however, Bama's pitching shutdown any thoughts of a rally in the final three innings.
The Hogs will send DJ Baxendale, our #1 starter, to the mound tomorrow morning at 9:30 to face the loser of Florida/MSU. Television coverage will be on CSS and ESPN3.com.
