Knile Davis Seriously Injured At Practice

Photo

The Hogs' chances are looking good for the upcoming football season! We've got a stout defense, tons of playmakers at receiver, Tyler Wilson at QB and, best of all, darkhorse Heisman candidate and last year's leading SEC rusher Knile Davis to punish defenses with both power and speed.

*insert sound of needle scratching off record*

As of roughly 6:15 p.m. this evening, all bets are officially off: in a very, very unfortunate turn of events, Davis suffered what sounds like a pretty horrific leg injury. At this point, further details are unknown but the rumors flying around Twitter are definitely not sounding good...words like "screaming in pain", "major injury", "shattered", and "likely done for the season" are being thrown around.

I read through dozens of tweets, but nothing quite captured the ominous mood like reporter Barrett Sallee quoting a source that said Davis' scream was "so loud it will haunt us in our dreams." Yikes.

All of our hearts here at Arkansas Expats go out to Davis, by all accounts a great teammate and an extremely hard worker who was poised for a big junior season en route to an expected early jump to the NFL. Injuries are part of the game, yes, but when you think about the personal impact this is just terrible.

As far as how this affects the Hogs' chances this fall, only time will tell. One thing seems sure though - the chances for a potentially magical season just got a lot slimmer.

I wouldn't reach for the meds just yet.

Sure, Knile is a fantastic talent at RB, but we have an already proven RB in DJ, and Ronnie Wingo has a chance to really be good this season.
Besides, there’s a lot of people jumping the gun right now. Regardless of what anyone says on twitter, this injury still may not be as serious as they’re making it out to be.

A parent of one of the other players was heard sayng it could be a high ankle spraing, which can be quite painful and difficult to recover from.
If so, he could be out for several weeks, but could still recover in time for Bama 6 weeks from now.

let’s all hope this is the case, but if it does turn out to be more serious, I have full confidence in DJ and Ronnie.

agree

With Johnson and Wingo, we should still be fine. Wingo may rush for 1300 yards this year. We’ll see how Kody Walker runs and always have D’Anthony Curtis who has played all over the field in reserve if we need him.

Knile Davis has proven to be a great kid, and let’s hope this isn’t serious. I’m sure we’ll know more later today, but I agree that we aren’t finished for the season yet. Petrino has built depth, and running back is one spot we do have some solid backups.

Practice is always a double edged sword

isn’t it? Yeah, you want to get better at running your plays, but then there’s always the chance of something like this happening. Somebody place a call to Oakland and Darren McFadden. Let Darren talk to Knile about getting injured in the off-season and then coming back from that and having a great season. The Great Toe Stubber might be able to boost Knile’s spirits.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUdge.

Any time your team loses its best player it’s a huge bummer. Sucks as a Hog fan but sucks even more for Knile Davis. Feel really bad for him, as it appears this has happened to him a few times before, and he was primed to have a huge season. So, KD, take your vitamins and focus on healing and schoolwork, we’re all sending you positive vibes and hoping you’re back stronger than ever next year.

That being said, I think the running game should still be solid, if not spectacular, without Knile. As mentioned above, there are some capable backups who will be able to perfom in his place. The diminished running attack will put even more pressure on T-Dubs to be The Man; let’s hope he is what we think he is.

Over at Black Heart Gold Pants, the Iowa blog, we call this an attack of “Angry Iowa Running Back Hating God” or AIRBHG for short. (I shouldn’t even utter his name here for fear of provoking his terrible wrath). The Hawkeyes seem to make it down to #3 or #4 on the depth chart every year. Let’s hope this doesn’t become a pattern for the Razorbacks, the injury bug stops here!

Cursed

Me, that is. I left Purdue for Arkansas and was as hyped about football this year as I was about Purdue basketball last year. We all know how that story ended.

Well, at least I am used to it. It also seems like we’re not totally screwed. Yet.

y'all have lots of talent at the RB position

but IMO Knile is a special back. Really hope he is alright. I thought he and the kid from LSU were going to be the best backs in the SEC this year.

I hate it for him

more than for the razorbacks. Hopefully, if he is out, he is able to bounce back next year. I don’t know what his hopes are, but I can see him playing at the next level. Lets just hope he takes care of himself and doesn’t get in a hurry.

Repeating something over and over doesn't make it true.
