From the World of Twitter: Archie Goodwin Defends His College Choice

Archie Goodwin - Twitter

Just as our baseball correspondent predicted, Little Rock prepster Archie Goodwin has been catching a little heat from some Arkansans about his decision to verbally commit to John Calipari's Kentucky Wildcats instead of the Razorbacks. Above is his Twitter response to some of the criticism lobbed at him by his fellow inhabitants of The Natural State.

Amazingly, that was exactly my response - I mean word for word - to my grandmother 20 years ago when she criticized my decision to go to college in Memphis.

Stay strong, Arch.

Doesn’t fly. Any home grown Razorback that stays home lives forever in lore. Mcfadden can go anywhere in Arkansas and is treated as a king. Mitch Mustain, not so much. To go just be a part of the Calipari machine instead of wanting to build your own legacy doesn’t really make sense.

"So he basically called me a Jew. I was confused because I'm black and Methodist."

I agree with the first poster on comments. Hard to rep Arkansas in a Kensucky uniform.

BOOM!

still

it’s his life, his choice, and lots of kids in other states come to arkansas for school. I know it’s different, in that we’re the one BCS school in the state. But I don’t understand how anyone imagines a chance to play at Kentucky and maybe in a year or two be a number one draft pick making millions of dollars is a bad decision — FOR ARCHIE GOODWIN. It may be bad for Razorback fans, but not for him.

This is all true.

But, I don’t care about “what’s good for Archie Goodwin” when it comes at the expense of my Hogs. Why should I?

Still

If that is the case then he should be posting that he is rep-ing ARCHIE GOODWIN, not Arkansas.

What a waste

I hate for him that any SEC title or National Championship he wins at Kentucky will only be vacated shortly after. Calipari is a crook and a cheat and it would have been nice to see Goodwin win games legitimately.

Here in Iowa we have a long history of exporting our top blue-chippers to Droopy Dog.

Roy Williams successfully raided the Hawkeye State for Raef LaFrentz, Nick Collison, Kirk Hinrich (Kansas), Harrison Barnes, now Marcus Paige (UNC)…could have been demigods here in Iowa but they chose to take their talents to South Beach. I understand the desire to play for an elite program, but Iowa and ISU had pretty strong programs in the late 90s/early 2000’s. Not so much lately, though.

Arkansas, we feel your pain.

Recently Iowa has signed a couple of top home-state recruits, so hopefully we’re turning things around.

Wonder if there’s any way we can invent a trumped-up felony charge and put out a warrant for Coach Williams’s arrest so he can no longer visit the state? Kidding, kidding. Kind of.

Tatted on his chest

That Arkansas tat isn’t going to carry the same juice in a Kentucky uniform… just so you know.

If you want to play for Kentucky that is fine, but your days of representing Arkansas are over. And when you get to the NBA, be sure and call out Kentucy in the video player introduction as well.

Joe Johnson and Ronnie Brewer. Maybe you’ve heard of them in the NBA? They rep Arkansas!

it's always hard to say goodbye to a

“loved one”….

besides, he’ll be just as well taken care of in and around the Commonwealth as he would if he stayed “home”

the legend status works both ways and UK fans are really good about taking care of their players, just like Hog fans.

like they say, don’t hate the player….hate the game ;j

I have kleptomania,
but when it gets bad,
I take something for it.

Say Goodbye

I am sure that Kentucky does take care of players and that is fine. Just don’t pretend that you are reping Arkansas. Don’t make excuses about the NBA and winning a National Championship. All have been been acheived at Arkansas, and will be again.

Accept that you flipped on your home state, sold out, and move along. Don’t pretend that Arkansas really matters when you are putting on a Kentucky uniform.

Time to change out that red tatto ink for blue ink.

Sometimes the problem isn’t the game….. its the playa ;j
