Darren McFadden: Best Running Back in the NFL?
If you haven't been paying attention - and, frankly, I hadn't been until reading this article by Yahoo!Sports' Michael Silver - Darren McFadden has been tearing it up in the NFL. After a couple of seasons in which it looked like the term "bust" would forever be attached to his pro career, McFadden is once again looking like the back who was arguably college football's best player in 2006 and 2007.
In Oakland's victory over the New York Jets on Sunday, Darren had his finest game as a pro: 19 carries, 171 yards and two touchdowns.
Check out this passage from Silver's article:
"Darren’s the best running back in the league," Raiders fullback Marcel Reece said after the most productive day (19 carries, 171 yards, two touchdowns) of McFadden’s four-year career. "I stand by him. I love him. Whatever this team needs him to do, he can do it, and he will do it. That’s why we’re becoming the offensive force that we are."
I’m not quite ready to declare McFadden the best – that distinction still belongs to the Vikings’ Adrian Peterson – but after watching the Titans’ Chris Johnson struggle through his third consecutive no-impact performance of 2011, I’d say No. 20 is No. 2 with a bullet.
I like this part too:
And what are McFadden’s thoughts on being regarded as one of the league’s best backs, if not the best?
"I believe it," he said. "I try to go out there and show it every Sunday on the field."
Way to go, Dmac! Now I'm not feeling so sheepish about copying your various Arkansas-related tattoos.

I love D-Mac
I stand by that statement even though he has ignored repeated invites to come over to my place for a BBQ…we only live a few miles apart, so he really has no excuse.
I love seeing Hogs do well in the NFL
Saw where George Wilson picked off Tom Brady in the Bills’ shocking win against the Patriots on Sunday. With four Brady picks, don’t you think it is time they put Mallett in there! haha.
It was a good weekend for Razorbacks in the NFL
Jamaal Anderson ran a fumble 47 yards for a TD. And Felix Jones also had his best of the season.
DMac has been good for my fantasy team.
It’s nice to see him an Hillis tearing it up in the League. If only Felix could stay healthy long enough to do the same.
I have D-Mac and Felix Jones both on my fantasy team.
D-Mac has been my co-MVP along with Tom Brady. Felix Jones has been a solid #3 RB/flex player. If I’m out of it the last week of the season (likely only if Brady and/or D-Mac get injured) then I’m trading for Hillis, just for the hell of it. Gotta reunite one of the greatest backfields in CFB history!
Heisman Observations
Take a look at the list of winners over the past 20 years. How many winners have had better pro careers than the second or third place candidates?
Only a few names stand out. Desmond Howard ‘91. Eddie George ’95. Ricky Williams ’98. Carson Palmer ’02. The class of ’05 (Bush, Young, Leinart) has been a huge disappointment. D-Mac seems to be on his way to having a better career than the winners in his classes (Troy Smith – WTF?!?, Tim Tebow). It’s too early to rule on 2008-2010, I guess.
List of pros with successful careers who finished 2 or 3: Peyton Manning, Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Vick, Adrian Peterson, Jake Plummer, Marshall Faulk, Eli Manning, Drew Brees, Steve McNair, Larry Johnson. Prehaps D-Mac is the next to join this list.
